Austin Yellow M3

On the fence about this color, I have it in my order but won't go into production for a couple of months. We have all seen in on the M4 in pictures but not a M3. What do you guys think?

I don't generally like yellow cars but to my surprise I do like AY on the M4. Of all M4 pictures I've seen, especially "in the wild" I like the AY the best. Doubt it will suite the M3 though.

What make you think it won't suite the M3. I have this photo shop of it. Wish there was a back view photoshop.

I am not fan of the color.
Sapphire Black M4 looks so much better than Austin Yellow M4 from Detroit Auto Show pictures.

I know that my opinion will probably not be liked by many on this forum.
I believe that anyone that buys a super bright, yellow/gold car is just screaming for attention. You have to have balls to drive this car because many of the people that view this car on the street will be staring not because the car looks cool but because the driver is simply seeking attention for their $75,000 automobile.

Driving this car, whether you want it or not will make a statement . To some this statement may be "look at that cool car" while others will defiantly be judging the driver as something less pleasant.

If you don't mind making a bold statement go for it.

Just my $.02:
Keep in mind you might not want my opinion since I am over 35yo. After my mid-20's I prefer to have my cars be understated.
If I was younger I might go for the YMB for the attention, but I have never had the balls for a yellow/gold car...

As a side note I wonder what the average age of the Austin Yellow drivers will be compared to the less bold colors?--Probably younger---

I live in Miami trust me Yellow M3 is farthest thing from seeking attention. Ferraris are like Corvettes here. If I lived anywhere else I would see your point!
And ps I'm not in my 20s.

I like the yellow. I prefer Sakhir Orange and my fav would be San Marino Blue which seems to only be offered in M6

If Austin Yellow isn't seeking attention how come this is the basically the same color that BMW chose to premier the M4 concept vehicle?

I don't understand the point you are trying to make about the number of Ferraris since the M3/4 is much cheaper than a high end exotic and must therefore seek attention by car color vs the attention grabbing design of an exotic. I also live in the the epicenter of high-end exotics and it seems as though some people want to compete for attention with the much pricier exotics in their neighborhood. I see many Audi, BMW, Mercedes and even Prius's in funky colors everyday (mat sherbet orange, bright Gumby green, yellow gold metallic flake, Smurf blue with blacked out trunk roof & bonnet etc.) parked in the condo and work garages next to the Ferrari, Lambo, GT3's, & Bentley etc.

Oops, I just realized that I might have taking this too seriously, I must be getting judgmental in my old age... I'll be the guy driving the grey M3/4...

That does indeed look pretty good. Sedans in general though are IMO a bit more sensitive to loud colors than coupes, hence my initial doubt. I'll be getting the M3 myself but I'm not brave enough for AY, a bright blue is the boldest I can go but the Yas is a bit flat for my taste.

Alpine White was the last gen M3 brochure color, so its probably because it shows the lines the best. I like it. I'm between AY and SO and will know when I go to the show next week.

I love yellow and white cars! With that said, I'm closing in our 40's sadly in a few years so hoping it's not because of my youth going south

I think it's unfair to judge people just because of the car color. Recently on a trip to the mall we saw a yellow s2000 cruising along in the middle lane on highway. As we got closer we realized it was a grandma! Could it be her grandson's car? Could it be she wants attention? Who knows

For the new m3, I'm still on a toss-up 70/30 between mineral white or this austin yellow. Both are cool colors and you can't really go wrong with either. The only caveat is resale value might be better with the white.

Also for you aggressive drivers keep in mind people will start to remember you driving a yellow car so if you want to stay under the radar, this might not be such a good color.

Just my 2 cents!

P.S. Austin Yellow vs. Dakar ~ if price was the same which one would you pick? I think the current stat is for the e90 m3, there is only one Dakar yellow in existence right now. Pretty cool!

To answer your last question....

....I'd opt for Dakar since I've owned Phoenix Yellow, and PY is very close to AY.
