costco auto extended warranty?

Anybody have an extended warranty with costco auto warranty program? Wanted to know how good they are compared to the ones offer by the dealership and other warranty company out there.costco sells the warranty but the warranty is from a third party company.

Lots of extended warranty questions lately and no one with any real answers. I think few actually go for extended and if they do, it's usually a BMW warranty.

They actually have a program where they offer a lot of discount to their members ,extended warranty on auto is one.just wanted to see if anyone has experience or know of somebody who has.
Not giving away free popcorn on this thread so if you want popcorn skip this thread and go somewhere else.just looking for some thoughts on their warranty compare to others.

Back when I was thinking about buying a pre-'10 car, I looked into a bunch of extended warranty options. I didn't end up buying an extended policy because I bought a 2010, but here are a few things I remember (albeit vaguely):

1) The BMW warranty's are really expensive, and if the car is already out of warranty there is some snag...either you have to get the car inspected or they just won't insure you (i forget which, sorry). The major point here is that they're really expensive (Like $3-6k, depending on which level), so you might consider self-insuring.

2) There was something about the Costco plan that made me shy away from it. It might have been that it didn't cover Navigation System issues, but don't quote me on that. Something big enough to be a deal breaker, so make sure you research this closely.

3) After all my research, I was ready to pull the trigger on an EasyCare plan, which was not only priced reasonably, but was highly regarded by people on these forums (at least those averse to paying for BMW coverage). My price quote was ~$2700 for 3 years. The car would need a visual inspection by the dealer writing the policy, and the closest dealer that sold EasyCare policies was a Ford dealer 150 miles away (and I live in Seattle, so it's not like I was in the middle of nowhere). That wasn't a huge deal for me, but just beware that you may not have a dealer nearby that sells EasyCare policies.

Anyway, sorry for the half-baked reply - I can't find my notes and don't remember my research all that well - but hopefully you find this somewhat helpful. At the very least, it's better than some of the other comments people left you ;-).

Finally, use the Search feature to learn more...there are tons of threads on this subject.

Make sure all the major components (VANOS, A/C, alternator etc.), electronics (GPS, Power Rear Sunshade etc.) are covered, not some parts that are covered but probably will outlast the car.
Two things you may want to consider before choosing the insurer, "Will they be there when I need the service (will they honor the plan)?" And "How are their customer service/claims department?"
When I need a claim, I want to make sure the company is there to pay for the bill.
I rather pay more to have a highly rated Customer Service dept than save a thousand bucks and spend an hour or two to plead your case with a customer service rep who barely speaks English.
I would research BBB, and other user rating websites.
Also to consider is how long will you keep your car.
In addition, buy an extended Maintenance Contract may be a wiser investment as normally the maintenances require after 50k miles are the most costly, 60k mile can be over $1800 from a dealer.
I would buy an extended Maintenance Contract, make friends with an excellent independent BMW shop. But if I have to choose a warranty company, I would buy from BMW. Service writers are more willing to replace some borderline parts because they have experience on how the BMW warranty pay out. And BMW warranty will pay all legitimate claims within reasons.
Good luck and hope you find the right plan

Aut Pom has a decent rep and they offer full coverage at high but not crazy prices. Also, dealers will usually knock off $500 from msrp on the BMW warranty if you push

Look into easycare extended warranty. I have been using them on my e46, and now my e92. I go to a pretty high end autoshop in houston, and thats the company they have been working with for years. No complaints so far on my end. If you car is out of stock warranty. they do require you to take the car into an authorized bmw dealer for a 200 pt ($200) inspection before being approved.

i have a 3 yr 45k extended for 3.5k full comprehensive toe to toe coverage

I read more on the costco warranty.the warranty is actually from century warranty service.I search and found that on 6speedonline someone had asked this same questions already and had the warranty on their porsche targa.I think some people in this fourm are afraid to go out the box so they never heard of costco selling warranty..thanks to those who helped your answers were very helpful, just found the info I was looking for from another fourm instead.and to the others who troll it's okay to live life outside your litte box..

if your plan covers it, sure. as long as you dont have other mods that may have caused the part to fail. (s/c, boost, etc). Bolt ons are relatively safe.

But seriously; I would consider comparing the dealers option with Costco side by side. Insurance / warranty is a business where you truly get what you pay for. You would think BMW would offer the best deal, since their cost for parts and labor is lower than a 3rd party paying BMW list price to repair your car. Go with BMW, there's less finger pointing that way.
