Steering Vibration When Braking??--Help!

Hey guys need some help here. I know there are a lot of problems with m3s and steering vibration when going 75-90mph but iv searched my problem and no luck with an answer. I just recently came back from a 2 1/2 week vacation and my car was sitting during my vacation. I got back two days ago and when i drove it for the first time i noticed it vibrates when braking. There is no vibration when hitting high speed either. I didnt hit any pot holes or curbs. I checked all tire pressures and there good. Also i am running stock OEM 19s setup, no spacers. Anyone out there that could help or experienced this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Not sure on an E92 -- but that's what my E46 did when the FCABs wore out in the front. The steering would be very shaky under braking at any speed.

It may be something as simple as something caught between brake pad and rotor. Something very small could cause tons of vibration. I would start there.

if you drive hard and on stock pads proabably pad deposits on your rotors. makes it feel like you warped them.

Well not so fast, there can be other factors OP. My '08 has some sort of the same issue at that speed range of 75-85mph or so.

First when it was 100% OEM, brakes and wheels, I never had this issue at about 25,000 miles on the clock. Only time I felt vibration while braking was after several laps at the Nurburgring but it was more of a griddy feeling, not steering vibration as you describe and what I feel also. After a few hundred miles of normal driving/braking, the "griddy" feeling will go away because that's OEM brake pad material that has been cooked onto the rotors under hard braking conditions, which really, those pads are not designed for.

Now after installing APracing brakes, I've only tracked it a few times since and I feel a steering wheel slight shake at about 75mph-85mph. I've had AP check the rotors (two sets) calipers, new pads installed, etc. And it seems that the problem probebly isn't the brakes but maybe something else in the steering system, suspension, etc.

I've spent many months along with Stilen's help trying to figure this out and we're pretty sure its not the brakes. I've read that this vehicle suspension is very sensative to road surfaces and at times on certain highway surfaces, the wheel will shake a bit more than on other surfaces. The vibration goes away at much higher speeds that 85mph on smooth highway so I'm thinking this has to be a problem with steering/suspension components.

Anyway, I think if you have not tracked your car, then you probebly are not experiancing brake pad deposite but something else. Have BMW look at your front suspension arms/components. That's what I'm going to be doing here soon.

Good luck!

Hey guys just pulled the front rims off and checked both brakes and rotors, no debris in there. Put the rims back on and when for a quick drive. Vibration is gone and everything is back to normal. Im guessing it was just deposits on the rotors that caused the vibration. Thanks for all the help and inputs guys.

Good to know; I had something similar, washed it, had to run out for a work emergency and left the car to dry in the garage, seemed like deposits from rust accumulation.
