Looking for a few good drivers

Hey everyone,

Have you ever watched Pike's Peak and thought it'd be great to do in your own car?

I have been attending an event for the past 6 years that is like an unknown Pike's Peak out in the Nevada high desert. The event is called The Virginia City Hillclimb, and while you'll find a few things here and there about an event that was run in 2011 called Spectre (which is now defunct) and videos on Youtube, there's very little info out there. The main reason for this is that the event I attend is a real "old school" event, run by people who have been doing it for over 40 years. Problem is, while I have great respect for the people who run the event, they pre-date this new fangled internet thing But hey, they're getting better - at least you can Google the event this year! People who aren't FCA/SAAC members (which is pretty much everyone reading this) need to contact me directly via PM or email if you're interested.

Here are the basics:
It runs both days on September 14-15th, plan on arriving Friday and leaving Monday.
NV SR 341 is shut down, emergency crews, corner workers and radio people are placed so the course is covered end-to-end.
Length: 5.2 Miles, 21 turns
Altitude: 5200 feet, ends just shy of 6700
Electronic timing equipment records your run times which are provided at the end of the event, and the "goal" time is 4 minutes. A stock M3 will run a 3:50 pretty comfortably with some experience on "the hill."

Why do we give the times at the end of the event? Well, if you do some Googling around, or remember reading about the Spectre event, you may find what happened to a guy named VRalexander... we don't want that. Our #1 goal on the hill is safety, and so while I've been asked to find new drivers, we focus on attitude, past track experience, and desire to be part of the group. You have to keep in mind that you're driving up a mountainside with no railings, 200+ foot drops and it can take several minutes for rescuers to arrive if you crash in the wrong spot.

Therefore this is not, I repeat, NOT A 10/10THS EVENT.

That said. I've driven on every race track on the West Coast, the Nurburgring, mountain roads in the Alps, Scotland, and others... and I can honestly say this is a unique, extraordinary event, and I keep coming back every year because it's such great fun. I'd love to see a contingent of M cars there this year.

Keep in mind - this is for fast street cars. No slicks allowed, no Miatas unless they're packing an LS7, and people will make fun of you if you crash/spin out. Incessantly.

Here's my video of a practice run from 2011:

Maybe I need to mention that to my therapist

Honest to god it's a blast, I just really need to drive home the fact that we're big on safety and want to avoid a situation where we have someone get a little too excited and have an avoidable off. In some ways it's safer than a track day, as you're the only car on the road during your run.

it was always a dream to be at Pikes Peak but I never managed it.
I wanted to see Walter Röhrl that time with the Audi S1 but it's far away just to go for this event!

Forums silliness aside I think this is a tremendous opportunity for anyone who has ever wanted to attack their favorite backroad without oncoming traffic, cops, or idiot cyclists who like riding 3 abreast around blind turns.

looks like multiple stages of a rally as his wing is reattached. crazy when he pulls the inside wheel a foot of the ground in town doing some 3 wheel motion.

Still way more dangerous than your local race track. If I'm going off, I'll take comfort in a foot deep of gravel or hitting a tire wall as opposed to over a guard rail and 500 foot drop.
