Apex ARC-8 Wheels for the Track

I’m in the process of selling my RAC RG63 wheels (check the following link if you’re interested! http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=612099) so I can buy a set of Volk TE37 SL or BMW M3 GT4 wheels. In the event I’m unable to sell my RACs, I’m considering the purchase of Apex ARC-8 wheels for track use. I plan to track my M at least twice per month.

So far, the only downside of the Apex wheels is the wheels are cast whereas the GT4 and TE37 are forged. Is this (or should this be) a major concern? Does anyone have any experience of using Apex wheels at the track (positive or negative)?

If you have the 6 piston Stop Tech then the fit is a little tight. The TE 37s will give you more room for the BBK.

I'm using the 6 piston calipers and 380mm rotors. Is there any rubbing with the Apex wheels and the StopTech brakes or is it just a tight fit? Thanks.

I have no issues at all having the ST 380mm kit and the APEX wheel.

Keep in mind the APEX are JWL/VIA, so they should be plenty strong enough. They're also very light. I wouldn't get too caught up on the forged/not forged thing.

I've had my ARC8s on my 330 in Korea where the roads are terrible, potholes and bumpy expansion joints everywhere. They've held up quite well so far.

I can't say this with certainty but I'm 99% certain the GT4 RE is not forged. I believe it's cast or flow-formed, and I believe they have no certification for street use as they are a motorsport wheel.

If anyone has details please post it, as I'd like to update my above response to avoid spreading any mis-information.

The APEX ARC-8 is flow-formed, and JWL/VIA certified. No spacer is needed as the offsets are correct. 75%~ of owners use them for track duty.

They come in four finishes and three E9X M3 sizes:

18x9.5" ET22 - 19.1lbs
18x10" ET25 - 19.95lbs
18x10.5" ET27 - 20.45lbs

Eddie - thanks for the response. A couple of Apex owners have PM'd me very favorable reviews of these wheels and I’m considering purchasing the Apex ARC-8 wheels for track use. I also just received your response to questions I submitted to www.apexraceparts.com – thanks for the quick reply!

Great wheels for street or track. The wheels are flow formed and pass JWL/VIA test standards. I have a set on my e46 M3 and they are great, took almost no weights to balance and they are light weight

I have a set of these wheels in 18X10 that I use with 275/35 tires, and I have StopTech brakes, ST-60/380 in front, and everything works fine. I don't understand some of the tight clearance comments. I mean, wheels either fit or they don't, and these are fine with the ST-60 caliper, 380mm rotor.

At this point, I'll likely keep my RACs for the street and use the Apex wheels at the track.

That's a nice combo of street/track wheels.

You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??"
