Just picked up an 09 E92 M3 ...

Just purchased a Jerez 09 E92 M3 (just got home) and am speechless !!!
This car is AMAZING !!!!

I came from an 07 S4 and the difference is overwhelming.

Quick question as I am still fumbling around with idrive .... Iphone 4 connected to the center console USB gives me a device not supported error, any ideas?

Look forward to posting in the forums and will upload some pictures ASAP.

You need a special lead to connect your iphone to the centre armrest USB.
Its easier to just to hook up a USB stick with your music on...or any USB mass storage device that uses less than 500MA.

There is another USB port in the glove box that is solely used to upload music to the internal HDD. I put all my core music (stuff I know I will always like to listen to) on a USB stick and uploaded it to the internal drive using the glovebox port. New stuff, audiobooks etc I put on a stick (or small portable mp3 player - non Apple - that shows on a PC as a Mass storage device) and put it in the port in the centre console for everyday listening.
Note that you are not supposed to have both ports in use at the same time.
The manual is worth a read when you have the time, I'm pretty sure it covers this stuff somewhere.

No. There is a dedicated "Y" cable from BMW that uses both the Aux In and USB connectors for the iPod function... If it was not provided with the car, the dealer can get you one or perhaps EBay.
