Holy Shit..what the f*** happened..

So I've been searching for this thread for a while now and I couldn't find it but I read about it before.

Anyway, this is what happened, I was waiting in the middle of the intersection to turn left . As the light turned yellow from green I stepped on the gas to go but nothing happened. I tried putting it into neutral and into D again but nothing happened..the car just wouldn't move... I felt that something wasn't right with the car because it seemed too quiet in the cabin as if the car shut down by itself because the engine didn't sound like it was running but everything on the dash board looked fine. I quickly turned off the car and turned it back on again and the car was running...and while all this were happening everyone behind me was honking their ass off at me. There wasn't anything wrong with the car after...everything was running smoothly.

Can someone explained to me what happened? I know that the new m3s turn off the engine to save gas while the car stops but I was only waiting in the middle of the intersection for less than 10 seconds...I read in a thread that a guy's m3 shut down while going on the highway and he almost crashed...

You can turn in off Auto Start/Stop button. I go and snap a pic of it so make sure it is always off.

Did you turn on you auto start/stop? If so, the car should have restarted the instant you took your foot off the brake. I leave mine off, it is annoying.

That thing happened several times in my M6 (but SMG). I think its the computer error definately. It happens still often. It says D, but only revs like N. This situation almost killed me on the hill. The dealer wont due anything but resetting ECU.

Well first off, does your car have start/stop? If you got it before September-ish, it should not. Check to see if there is a button with an "A" and an arrow circling around it on the panel below your radio/HVAC in the center console.

Either way it sounds like the engine was indeed on, so that isn't likely to be the problem itself. So, it could very well be DCT related. You could take it in and have them look at it, unfortunately it is going to be hard to reproduce. But there might be some codes stored.

Yeah, probably just a computer glitch.

What's going to happen:
Take it to the dealership.
Try to reproduce it.
Fail.
Drive it back home in fear.

If you have a nice service team:
They'll take it from you for a day.
Try to reproduce it.
Fail.
Take a cigarette break.
Then have you called to come pick it up.

That. Is. How. It. Works.

I really feel for you. I sincerely hope they can fix this.

Actually, the engine was off. The car wasnt even vibrating and when I pressed on the gas the engine didnt even rev. Everything was off except for the dashboard.

Makes no difference if you have a 6MT or DCT, The auto off/on feature is on both. I have used it a few times in my 2011.5, seems to work fine for me, although I think I will usually just leave it off unless I am in some area that has very long lights. It will usually turn off the car after being stopped for 2 seconds from what I can tell. It starts up very quick, as soon as you take your foot off the break or clutch (if you have a 6MT).

It's never enabled by default so it hurts no one to have the feature.

Exactly.. Absolutely no down side to having the option. It's always better to have the option for something then not have it at all.

I keep my start/stop feature off because I really don't mind spending the gas.

Start/stop on a performance car is like... worrying about gas when you're driving an M3!

It still does it in manual. You have to have it off for it not to annoy you.

i posted about mine doing something similar but mine only occurred after filling up with gas so i suspect mine was a vapor lock type scenario.

I called my dealership after it happened 2 times and they said sometimes in the heat (im in arizona) it will vapor lock after filling with gas but if it continued they would give me a loaner car and work on it.

no problem since but now its winter here and we hit maybe 65 degrees in the winter so its not a problem. only had the car since september so 100+ temps were still present until end of october.
