Trickel Charger?
For those of you who have used trickle chargers do you hook it up under the hood to the posts provided for jump starting or directly to the battery? I'm thinking of getting one for storage this winter. Thanks.

Clip them under the hood, there is a positive post, covered by a red plastic and the neg. post right next to the fender jam in the engine bay. Let me know if you have any ???

Thanks for the reply. That was my first thought but I recently had to jump start the M (left radar det on for two weeks) and the jump would'nt work using the posts in the engine compartment. I ended up going directly to the battery.

Sorry to hear that. If I was you, I would invest some money on the Battery Tender. It is about $60, and it is worth it. Especially if you don't drive your car for more than a week. Since my M is not a DD, I usually have on the Battery Tender when not driven. It'll keep your battery charged and ready to crank.

As elm3 said, the jump connectors under the hood work great for charge maintenance. You want to get a device designed to charge and then maintain your battery's charge such as the Deltran Battery Tender Plus or the more expensive BMW Advanced Charging System (which is just a re-branded Battery Tender Plus). If you search on Deltran or Battery Tender you can find quite a bit of info on this site. The Battery Tender Plus is available on Amazon for about $50.

You can do either, but it's very easy to connect to the front jumper terminals.

I have my BMW tender hooked up under the hood. When plugged it in it lights up charge (red). Should it be green light (trickle) for storage? How do you switch it to trickle charge? Thanks

It should switch automatically when it senses the proper full charge voltage.
