Long Cranking and In The Shop.
OK, so I get in my Z4 this morning and start the car. It cranks forever, well, at least for 4 or 5 seconds. Anyway, way too long. It has been doing this more and more over the past few weeks. Finally starts and the check engine light comes on. Now understand, my Z4 is two freakin' months old. Unbelievable how anything could be wrong with it. So, I drive to my local BMW and they ask me if I have an appointment. I say, no, but, my Z4 wasn't kind enough to alert me that it was going to crap out this morning, so, here I am.
I suspect the fuel pump is defective but will know later today. I also asked them if they could program or enable remote window and roof access while they are hooking it up to the computer and we will see if that can be done. I will update later today when I know what gives. Later. |

I'm wondering if it is limited to the 35i's...just at a quick glance those seem to be the ones with all the probs, except for my lone 30i...5 check engine emissions lights and counting!

so basically 135, 335, 535, z4 3.5, etc, all have the issue. as far as the original poster having the issue on a 2 month old car, some have had it die in the first week! [and up to 5 times thereafter]. MilitaryE89...did the dealer diagnose your car with a HPFP failure? emissions code can mean lots and lots and lots of things as you know. |

no, they didn't...its just a 30i so hopefully i can skip out on the hpfp issues. they said it could be anything. I am still trying to rule out "user error". The next time it happens though i will take it in. I am thinking that if it continues i will take it in everytime until I qualify for lemon law protection. Its just frustrating...

buy an obd-ii code reader or take it to an auto store and get them to give you the code. from the code you'll be able to look on the internet and find, in general, what the issue is. it could very easily be a bad gas cap or an evap line that has a hole/crack in it or perhaps is disconnected.

Codes indicate either a bad or failing hpfp or the injectors. Not sure yet which BMW will authorize to replace, or both. Have to wait until tomorrow to get her repaired and back.
Also found out that the dealer cannot implement window and roof access unless you have comfort access and it cannot installed post production. |

Had my fuel pump replaced last week. Had to go back again this week for a software adaptation reset problem. Car wouldn't hold idle and kept stalling. What do you want for 60K?
