Road trip...caught speeding.
Hi guys,
took most of last week off to take the 135 up to Dorrigo (inland of Coffs Harbour). Was on my own which suited perfectly as I wanted to put the car through its paces. My love of this car has grown enormously after the 1400kms of driving I did and now that I'm well and truly through the break-in period I'm enjoying winding it out a bit more. My only gripe for the week would have to be the size of the fuel tank. I was only getting 400kms to the tank on the freeway which is pretty bad I know but I was driving very uneconomically! But 53 litres is just not big enough for an engine like this. The aircon was more than able to keep me cool even on a day that was 36 degrees. The engine did not get too hot either even with the aircon on and me pushing the car quite hard. I had some good fortune with the boys in blue all the way up until the last hour of the trip. I was pulled over by an unmarked car doing well over the limit. I had been lulled into complacency after long drive and seeing no police. He asked me if I knew why he pulled me over...I cheekily suggested it might becasue I was in the right hand lane and NOT overtaking...he laughed and said no it's regarding your speed. He asked if I knew how fast I was going I said mmmm 120ish? No sir it was much more than that. He took my licence, went to his car, returned and asked me to get out of the car. I thought I was done for. He asked me where I'd been and I told him and he replied ok, well I'm letting you off with a warning. Slow it down in future.:eyebulge: I almost hugged him. I have never been let off a fine before and cetainly didn't expect to be at this speed. So there are some understanding police out there it seems.

well I was about 145-150 centimetres tall when i was a young bloke.
Yeh it was very lucky indeed and Zuzu my record is actually not too good. Never had a DUI or anything but several minor speeding offences over the last 10 years. I bought a lotto ticket when I got home.

That's ridiculously lucky. I, on the other hand, was booked for doing 128km in a 110 zone when I know, undeniably, that my cruise control was locked on 112. I'd been on the road since 6am, after leaving Newcastle for Coffs Harbour, and didn't need to vary my speed whatsoever for around an hour and a half due to the lack of traffic. I explained to the cop who pulled me over that it was not possible that I was doing that speed, but unfortunately he had no intention of listening. Needless to say, I'm pretty pissed off at the fine and loss of demerit points, given that I hadn't broken the law. Not much I can do though, sadly I can't prove my cruise control was set at 112.

Its a shame the computer or keys can't be used to record that information, even for a week or two. How much storage would you need to keep a simple record of speed esp if you only record changes greater than 5km/h.

That can work both ways!! There's no way I'd want my speed recorded. 1st-2nd gears are sooo much fun!!

Nice one harpoon. That's a very lucky escape. I reckon your good humour might have played a part in your good fortune. Let us know how it goes with the lottery ticket.

Haha yes Alpine I sat 2 cars behind the cop for the rest of the trip.
I haven't checked the lotto ticket yet but if I won 20mil I can assure you you won't hear from me again as I will be on the Ferrari Addicts forum haha.

Nice one, Harpoon. I would have love to have a photo of your mug when he told you he'd only give you a warning, you could put it on one of those inspiration posters in an office and title it "Relief"

I remember as a poor uni student back in the mid '80s driving down Grand Prom, Dianella in my '75 Datsun 120Y being pulled over by the cops (think it was an XF in those days) for sitting in the middle of the road ie: not keeping left. Nice lady cop gave me a caution and sent me on my way.
I was allegedly speeding in the wife's X5 a few years ago and the lady cop (again!) said "I love these X5s" and sent me on my way. I figure I won't be third time lucky!

haha. its fantastic to hear when somebody gets let off a fine.
but its sort of a win/lose sort of situation. you are lucky by getting off the fine, but its quite a scary experience. i got away with it once. i happened to be 80cm tall wen i was supposed to be only 60cm.. hahaha |

Down here in the Island State, I have been let off with a warning about 3 times in the 3 years I've been here. Unfortunately I have also been fined about the same number of times as well..... I must have a lead foot.
