OT: X6 Have you seen one?
Just curious what people's thoughts are on the new X6, the car without a purpose.
Spoke with the dealer today, I was curious about a 1 series I saw on the road this week that had some panel damage, he said it was their launch car (now sold), he then went on to say that they had an X6 delivered today with body damage and it needed a bit of "bumper repairs". Anyway, to get back on my own topic,,,, I asked how their sales were going for the X6 and he said that they have sold... wait for it.......... NONE/ZIP/ZERO/NADA! |

Saw one yesterday in the same metallic red as your pic.
Not sure about its proportions. Looks unbalanced and ungainly especially from the rear. The coupe bit !!! I have to agree that this car is a niche filler without any real reason for existence. Personally if I were to by a Sports Utility Vehicle it would be the X5 or Range Rover Sport.

Al the guy i was with the day I saw you at the German car fest is (and now was) going to buy the V8. But the economy bullshit that is going on at the moment has swayed him to sit put. I'd say there is a few out ther like that. Personally I recon that they should put the V8 in to the X5 then I would buy it to replace the 4.6 I/we have, as the car is more useful than the X6.
Why buy an X6 when really I cant fit any more people in it than the 1'er. And its a bit fugly. |

I kind of like it. IMO it's the X3 for people who want something that actually looks good and a shameless nod at Mazda's CX-7 which does very well in sales, I'm told.

Its common in Tasmania to buy a big 4WD because the condition of our roads are, crap, covered in log trucks, ice and snow. Our roads are great fun to drive because they curve though the scenery but tiring in a regular 4WD. The X6 appears to offer all the advantages of the big 4WD with some of the fun of the 135 coupe. I wouldn't buy one but the local dealer has sold several already. It would make a good towing car for some of our abalone divers.

it looks wayyyyy better in real life. it doesnt make it look better looking, but the proportions seem different in the photo.
i think one main thing is that it has a lot of road presence, becuase it is so peculiar. it would be an interesting car to drive |

looks ok in pix - but very impressive in the flesh - really imposing stance.
can't see many sales though - it's a very limited market - well one they're trying to create - a sporty 4wd that that's not sporty enough to compete with sports cars - or a 4wd that's not ready to compete with proper 4wd's. It's stuck in the twilight zone in between. Aston Martin could sue them over those tail lights too .... still nice close up. |

I live next door to a BMW dealership so I see one everyday. I like it a lot, especially with the nice optional 21 inch. My friend and I would have both traded our X3's for one if only BMW weren't stupid enough to make it a 4 seater...

I reckon they'd sell more if they made them with 5 seats. Sure you could then get an X5 but the X5 isn't a sporty looking car! The X6 looks better in the flesh. I'd seriously consider the X6 as a replacement for my X5 but it's a bit hard to haul a family of 5!

I first saw the X6 at Eastern Creek back on 22nd July while I was there for a track day. The X6 had Vic plates and was absolutely caked in mud, obviously just back from some offroad test driving. It was on loan to Tim Robson who's now Production Editor with Top Gear Aus magazine. Tim was kind enough to let a mate have a good look all over and inside the car, since he was keen to buy one. My mate later took one for a test drive through the Royal NP and reckoned it was an awesome car to drive in the corners (this coming from a Mni driver). But in the end, he went for a V8 X5 instead (7 seats wins over 4 seats).
Personally, I love the look of the X6 and hear it's incredibly quick and great handling. But with only 4 seats and ludicrously poor packaging, it seems to be a major extravagance. BTW, there were 97 X6s sold in August and another 47 in September. That's on top of the 8 demonstrators that arrived in June. These figures are on par with X3 sales!

Just took one for a drive. Very nice indeed.
If you liked how the X5 drove you will definately love this. Much more car like and very typical BMW refinement alround. Very nice for a big car. Who's gunna be first in Oz to retune the N54 in one of these?

I drove one at "drive for the cure". Let me tell you guys, for a fat pig, that thing can take a turn. It was a blast to drive, and looking down the hood from the drivers seat, the car looks mean as heck. The four seats are ridiculous though. What were they thinking???? Conclusion, love the look (bigs rims a must, and that flat black one that there is a pic of on the board is really what Darth Vader would drive), but completely useless due to the four seater configuration.

Thanks for your comments, thought it strange no one had bought one in Canberra... at all, not even one of the tight as Diplomat purchasers for one of the many Embassies here abouts.
Seems most don't mind the look but for obvious reasons see the seating config as an issue. Price wise they are up there too, but it would be a nice cruiser, dare I say a FAT GT. I'd like one but I guess when it comes down to putting down the cash, nah! Maybe when there are a few on the 2nd hand market and they take the almost guaranteed hit (big hit I think) in their resale. |

I had a 20 minute drive in a silver one and have to say I thought it was awesome. Its size really belies its agility. I'd def get one over an X5 if I didn't have so many darn kids! A proper boys car.

I thought it looked pretty average from pics. Saw one in real life and it has grown on me a lot. Still not that fond of the rear view, but it would be my first choice for a family car out of the BMW range.
A friend is waiting to hear whether an M version will be made. Anyone know yet? |

Great looking from every angle but the rear... It's too big! But I like it, looks much better in person.

I don't think BMW will care. If you want one in Belgium there is now an 18 month waiting list
