I plan on picking the car up via the PDC, so my break in will be a nice drive back to Orlando, with a stop in Atlanta...
Only thing I have let to figure out is how to avoid rock chips getting home, 3M dealer near pickup, blue tape? |

I'm planning on taking delivery in Spartanburg. So first stop, a couple runs on the Tail of the Dragon (while observing break-in procedures, regrettably). Next head to Asheville, NC; check out the Biltmore Estate, treat the wife to a nice B&B.... Then point the car north to CT. Break-in should be complete by the time I'm home.
Agreed on the rock chips, wiggum. I'll have to plan on a 3m installation somewhere early in the trip. |

I did the "hard" break in on my 335i and My baseline dyno was 283whp and 287 wtorque on a mustang dyno at 4200feet in elevation.
There's a bit of a consensus on the e90 forums about the hard breakin method producing better power numbers. If you want I can give you my break in methods. |

Drive the car at varying rpm's for about 100 miles then change the oil in the garage when I get home. Then continue to drive at varying rpm's and avoid cruising as much as possible until I hit 1000 miles.

I also went full throttle on the first miles.
The car went like hell. I think I will keep it that way with the 135i, full throttle from the start...as long as the oil aso. is hot theres no problem. |

Century BMW (greenville) is a few minutes from the PDC. You could probably make an appointment with them to get any DIOs put on before heading back (3M, tint, etc.). |

I'll be doing euro delivery so it's first miles will be on the Autobahn =)
I break cars in the hard way, get the temps up and seat the rings. I am generally gentle on the clutch for the first thousand but that's about it. Vary the RPM's and drive it like normal Mike |

I would be so nervous to beat the hell out of my brand new engine out the gate. Granted I'm no grandpa on the road, but I have to look more into this. I'd feel much better doing this on a 20k mustang than a 35,000 car.

BTW on my 325i i did a really HARD break in and im unusually fast for a 325i...beating many other IDENTICAL ones... although that can be said to be other factors involved (driver, weight, etc.):iono:
