changing the springs on f80 m3

questions?
do i need the special tool suspension strut tool (18mm/12PT) with the 1/2 drive?
i do have an impact to spin the 18mm strut bolt out so that i can drop the entire strut.
thanks

It would be best to use for proper torqueing of the top nut. I would suggest using one ,for piece of mind, as it is a relatively inexpensive tool.
If you do not have passthrough sockets for the end link, may want to look at picking some of those up as well.

I am not suggesting this but you could probably get away with just sending it with the impact as well. Same way you could do this for the front endlink without using a passthrough socket and allen.

I changed the front springs myself on my wife's F80 without taking out the whole strut assemblies. I would suggest getting the Schwaben 18mm strut nut socket for the thorough job of properly torquing the strut bolts.

I used one of these, don't know why I can't find the Schwaben one on Amazon where I got mine from a few years ago, but any socket of this style will do, just make sure it's 18mm

I use a regular long socket and put a 1/8 extender through it, then a 10mm socket and ratchet at the end and just hold the 18mm long socket with a vise grip and turn the nut loose. No special sockets needed for this job.
