Wheel hop issue
Sorry for crossposting in the wrong forum, but I see that F80/F82 owners have been experiencing the same issue. I get wheel hop when trying to launch my F87 M2 Comp. Like a stupid amount. It feels like an earthquake in my car and sounds like everything is exploding. So much so that my dashcam thinks I had an accident. Look at this video.
I had something similar in my 330i but not to this extent. I had DSC off, everything in Sport+, S3 shifting mode, and the RPMS for the launch were around 2700 rpm. I got the launch control checkered flag and when I went to launch, this happened. I tried launching twice and both times, I got severe wheel hop. I'm on new Michelin PS4S tires (around 600 miles on them) on the rears and the pavement was wet because it had been raining all day. It wasn't raining when I tried to launch and it had been around 2 hours since it last rained. I'm hearing some people have this issue when the pavement is dry, wet, etc. Ambient temperature was around 50 degrees, and the road didn't seem like it was very bumpy at all. Can I please have some help? |

Are you saying this is a common issue with the M2? Wtf? I can't even launch this car?
I was initially hoping it was due to shitty traction from wet roads/cold temps on PS4S but if this also applies to when it's dry out, that just made me very upset. Also, on YouTube videos, a lot of people seem to have no issue launching their M2C's, albeit in better conditions. If this is an issue, why hasn't BMW issued a fix for it? |

i have an f87c
never had issues with wheel hop but i dont ever launch my car. its a track car not a drag car. i was out yesterday doing some 2nd gear slides around corners and there was no wheel hop. the car breaks away nice and progressive. i would suggest waiting until its 70-80+ degrees out. warming your tires by doing some donuts. then trying the launch. 50 degrees on a regular street is just too cold for this car to hook up fully. or just buying a different car. f8x cars aren't really that quick off the line. you aren't missing much. you will feel the same G force just flooring from 4000rpm in 1st

trying to launch the car on cold tires and cold/wet roads is pointless and will never result in anything good.
To decrease wheel hop, you will find most of the issue is the soft OEM suspension and differential bushings. By upgrading to a stiffer polyurethane style or metal bearing/joint, you can minimize wheel hop a good bit. It will always be a dynamic situation of available tire grip versus available road grip versus the movement allowed in the whole rear end assembly. You may see mixed results depending on conditions but stiffer bushings is probably your best bet to tame the wheel hop.

Maybe wait out the winter and let the tires break in a bit? I hope its not a "feature"... good luck! josh |

This is a tire issue. Wheel hop is common with over inflated tires, sometimes even with correctly inflated tires with stiff sidewalls. Check your rear pressure. At the drag strip or on a sticky road surface, lower rear street tire pressures to 20 psi to prevent hop.
