F15d - DPF sensor / Particulate sensor error - does it matter?

2015 F15 X5d. At ~90k miles got an empty engine light (not 50% or 100% filled light). I've been driving with it this way for nearly 10k miles now with no changes in power, mileage, etc. Yes there is some tuning, but not pothole (Dudmd Stage 1 with some edits).

Bimmerlink shows 2bb300 Diesel Particulate Sensor error. From BMWs SIB for F15d they will update my "i-level" because I know it's a couple versions behind the one indicated. Just one of those issues where the sensor parameters are likely incorrect from the factory.

>> So what if I just leave it? Is the sensor just an emissions fault issue for the vehicle, or does it actually drive some engine tuning/detuning?

I'm okay ignoring the light on the dash rather than dealing with BMW coding, then re-flashing with my tuners, if it's not causing any harm.

>>note: edited due to my stupidity. Nothing to do with NOX sensor.

There are SIB for extended warranty on diesel particulate sensor and the nox sensor. 120k miles/10years. Take to dealer and they will fix for free. Just had the diesel particulate sensor replaced last week.

So neither replies answered my question.

BMW will overwrite the software, so I'll need to have both of my tunes (Stage 1 for performance and...umm...the other..yeh) applied again which is its own impact of time and money even if BMW's update is free.

I'm assuming BMWs update is just fixing overly tight parameters, not a bad sensor, since the TSB fix on the F15D is software only.

So back to the original question...does it matter? Is the sensor just en emissions trigger or does it actually impact the engine tuning on the fly?

Not sure what you are talking about overwriting software. The SIB says it will replace faulty part and clear codes.

For the F15, it's only a diagnosis and program. Others that have had this work done on the F15 X5d have confirmed they only did the coding first. If it came back after the coding, only them would they change the actual sensor, and those that got that had to argue for it.

From the SIB for F15 x5d;: Perform vehicle diagnosis, program/encode control unit(s) (includes connecting an approved battery charger/power supply, performing a vehicle test and applicable test modules) (Main work)

So per the SIB and my post, BMW will update my i-level before running diagnosis to see if there is a part failure. My understanding is that update will overwrite my tuning. So all of my original question still applies...just a different sensor: DPF sensor. Worth noting...Bimmerlink/code shows DPF is recharging at about the same intervals as historical average. So again still not sure what limitations it's causing besides the dash light.

Does anyone know the location and the part # of this sensor, in case BMW denies free of charge service?

I had mine in for the second EGR recall, and they took care of it for free.

DPF sensor replacement

Does anyone know how long it really takes to replace this sensor part # 13628582024? Also my dealership can't tell me why it isn't working but only that it needs replacing ($1300). Told it was a 4 hr job to remove the entire exhaust! (dealers charge $200/hr).

I saw the warranty extension for 2014-2015 models on the SIB bulletin but when I called BMW USA, my vin # wasn't included although the engine was the same. (I have a 2016 X5Xdrive 35D) but with a 10 year, 120 mile extension for 2014/5 models...wondering if the DPF sensor on mine would be faulty as well..my mileage is only 80K.
Has anyone had this sensor replaced or knows how it interacts with the exhaust system/DPF??
thx

Mine was replaced at no cost by the dealer under the extended 120k warranty. Same part number you posted: 13628582024. It should NOT require dropping the entire exhaust. But will require dropping the shields. Could not see it being a 4 hour job, but haven't personally done it. A faulty sensor will throw a specific code(s) if it has failed.

Crystalworks...what year/model is your vehicle. Was told by BMW USA and my dealer if the VIN was not listed in their system, they would not offer the extended warranty. Dealer said that my vehicle probably...probably had a newly designed original sensor installed...but doesn't really know until it is removed..

Yes, ours is a 2015 X5 35d, so falls under the extended warranty. Perhaps the MY 2016 did get an updated DPF sensor? Not sure. There is a superseded part number (old one was 13628517454) that was dated up to October of 2015. If your manufacturing date is after that you probably have the new sensor. But only way to tell would be to visually check.
