Ambient light, light source

i want to upgrade the ambient light in my f15, but can enybody tell me what kind of lightsource its using? is it a normal 5mm rgb led in the light strip?

Its a fiberoptic type cable with the light on the end, not LED strip.

I believe so but have never taken it off to confirm the size of the LED on the end.

Good question… to add to it - Is there an ability to swap out the light source with a new one or upgrade? I have read that the newer generation is brighter and mine do seem a bit dim.

Yes, BMW sell the LEDs which go on the end of the cable. There are few different types, you can check RealOEM for part numbers, here is one as an example:
