EDC Strut Sensor

just for a data point, I'm watching what price a 2012 E93 M3 fetches on BringaTrailer with nearly the identical spec as my 2011. Just keeping track of the market.......

As the bidders scrutinize the seller with questions, I've been scrutinizing too, but silently. In comparing his 2012 engine bay to mine, I noticed that my car has sensors sitting on top of the strut towers for EDC. The 2012 in the auction also has the EDC option but I see no sensors shown there https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2012-bmw-m3-49/

The 2012 in the auction has an Öhlins remote-reservoir coilover suspension installed in place of the factory springs and struts. Would that mean that EDC won't work, or does that system sense the strut some other way in that system? I'm just wondering if EDC has been disabled with this mod?

EDC is disabled for most aftermarket coilover kits. Excluding specific kits from Bilstein and KW (to my knowledge) that have shocks that work with the factory edc system like OEM.

Most folks that move to a coilover kit without EDC capabilities either use an EDC emulation device or have EDC coded out.

I don't believe Ohlins offers an EDC compatible shock so this car likely does not utilize EDC any longer. They can instead manually adjust dampening on the shock.

thanks, mine is 100% stock, and hey, it's a convertible, can't say a suspension mod is in my future - so appreciate your insight.

My E93 M3 already handles great for what I want and the bonus of great HP and that V8 growl are already intoxicating for me
