Blackstone Oil Report at 101k mi
Just wanted to share the blackstone report I did at 101k on a 2016 35x.
My normal change interval is 7,500mi but I did this one at only 3,500mi for two reasons. 1. I was doing the oil filter housing gasket at the time and wanted to dump everything out to make it easier. 2. I bought this X5 used from a Toyota dealer and had zero confidence they'd put the correct oil in. The new oil is 5w40 due to mileage and climate.

Compared it with mine. My metals were higher at 74K but the flashpoint was higher.
They emphasized on the flashpoint, but it could be your higher mileage. Thanks for sharing! |

Only 3500 miles on the oil means it's not unusual to have low metal values, which is in the notes (Blackstone avg based on 6,100 miles). Overall looks like you're right in line with averages. High boron is probably indemic to the oil. What 0w30 were you running? BMW's newer TPT oil?

The answer is I have no idea. Which is one of the main reasons I changed it early, as noted, the X5 came from a Toyota dealer and they had paperwork of an oil change at 97k (when I bought it) but I had zero confidence it was in any way correct. (Though Blackstone seems to think it was 0w30.)
I use Liquimoly for my fleet in most cases and that's what I put back in, 5w40. I will do another report at my normal interval of 7,500mi next time just to check, but I don't anticipate any issues.

For the X5 I used the 2041 "Premium" in the purple bottle. You're referring to the "High Tech" which seems to be marketed as a long interval oil. Though in the description it also notes being suitable for FI engines. The High Tech specifically conforms to BMW Longlife-01 (bis MJ 2018).
Funny enough Liquimoly doesn't recommend any 0w30 oils for the N55 or N63. (N55 and N63 have the same recommendations) These are Liquimoly's recommendations: Special Tec 5w-30 Molygen 5w-40 High Tech 5w40 Energy 0w-40

Go to the blackstone labs site and sign up to receive free testing kits. Then you take a sample at your next oil change and mail it in. I recommend paying for the report online ahead of time, then you just write your receipt number on the sample, significantly streamlining the process.
