Exhaust Tip Qusetion

I have a 35i, non-M exhaust. Want to switch out the small round tail pipe covers with some new larger slip-ons. Seems that some people use 2.5 inch and some say 3 inch. Ebay says 2.5 inch is compatible.
So it looks like the actual size is somewhere in between. Will the 2.5 work???
Thanks

Ours are welded on - you know that right?

Nope. They tap off with a mallet. Already slipped one off.

Really? Can you share a pic? If the tips are off I would expect you could get some aftermarket ones on there pretty easily. With the stock 35i tips (non msport) there is a flare at the end making it difficult to slide new tips on.

Once I figure out which ones to order I will. I put the factory one back on once I figured out they weren’t welded on.
Just need to know what to order 2.5 or 3.0 inlet size. I am definitely going with 3.5 for the outlet.

On my 2013 535, I removed the OEM tips and replaced them with 3.5" Magnaflow stainless steel ones.
No rust, no discoloration.
They filled the stock opening and looked beefier and way better than the small stock ones.
They were not slip on but two tack welds on each kept them sturdily in place.
Later, when I returned the car, I took them of and welded back on the original ones. 5 minutes job.

FYI... BMW 18-30-7-633-311 this is the part number for the exhaust tips for ours. If you pull up a picture you can see the tension clips that hold them onto the tailpipe.

End portion 3" can be off with mallet then become 2.5".

2.5 is too small. Need at least a 3 inch. Will be returning the 2.5 and have ordered a 80mm from AliExpress. Will know in a few weeks. Measured the exhaust pipe without the cover and it is a touch over 3 inches.
