OEM m3 Exhaust Mod Shops

Hi All,

Thinking about doing the OEM Exhaust mod. I'm in the Los Altos / MV area and I've been looking at shops around here.

An exhaust shop in Palo Alto (Bay Mufflers) quoted me $500 for the mod while I've seen folks on the forum talk about anything between $150 (Minute Mufflers) and $300 (Exhaust Works)

For those of you who have done this mod, does this range sound right or any other places you recommend?

$500 is too much IMO. Todd at Exhaust Works in Belmont is great to work with, and decently priced. He's done quite a few of these mods.

Another voucher for Todd. He did it for $300 for the 4 pipe internal mod.

From my research $300 would be the ideal target. Less is better, more is too much.

Not to threadjack - but does anyone have a recommendation of where to get this mod in the LA area?

From another thread:

Mike's muffler does good work. They said they could do the bypass when i asked about it a couple months back.
I'd give them a call to confirm, but I'm pretty sure they should be able to help

I think it was 13 hours. And the shop actually defended their "custom work". We are going to tear one open for a member here in Florida and have an exhaust guy weld the can back together.

+1 for mike's muffler in LA (el monte). Had them do this mod way back on my 335. Was cheap, prob like $200

For my m3, paid $200 for 4-pipe mod at minute muffler in Dublin about 1.5 years ago

For your reference I did mine for around $450 a few years back here in a famous east bimmer shop... It also include painting the muffler black with high-temp paint.

Corey at Bay Area Mufflers did an amazing job on the mufflers. Another option for us south bay folks.

2 large pipe weld mod + high temp paint for $350 in 3 hours. He even took some pics for me since I coudnt be there.

This mod has awoken the beast. Ill post a video when i get a chance.

Funny you say that. Was just starting to look at diffusers and was thinking of changing the tips as well.

What direction did you go?

Ended up just sold the diffuser (which I bought from another member), don't want to bother with it for now...

When I just got the car I thought I have to get a diffuser some day... but I have come to appreciate the OEM look of the backend more gradually...

I don't know if such tips exist... would be nice if you can find an adjustable one to weld on as you do the OEM exhaust mod, that would allow you to adjust how far the tip to stick out based on style of the diffuser...

Exhaust works is extremely wishy washy and hard to lock down an appointment. But he did a great job on mine a year ago.
