iDrive 6.0 BMW response - forgetting preset and display settings is normal

I have been fighting a dumb problem in my 2018 F15 with iDrive 6. My X5 forgets if it is in Preset mode, it goes back to the mode the station is in such as FM and shows all FM stations when the car is started.

It also forgets what was on the display, I may have a map showing and it starts with the tiles or even the vehicle menu.

So each time I start the X5 I fiddle around and get things back to where I need them. Usually while driving when I figure it out.

My dealer can't figure it out but is familiar with the problem. It started with iDrive 5. So I reached out to the BMW genius folks at their email address.

The shocker is they gave me an answer and knew of these behaviors. They said it happens due to diagnostics that iDrive does when the car goes to sleep.

So far so good until I read the end of the email. BMW considers the behavior to be normal operating and not a bug with no plans to fix it.

Sure, not a first world problem. But really BMW?

Wife's 1-month old F85 does this also. Very irritating to her

Both my 2017 X5 40e and 35d did this. Randomly too. Very annoying.

My 2007 X5 did not do this, but my 2008 X5 did it randomly, and oddly my 2011 X5 never did this!

Gotta love Bayerische Technologie

The 2018 X1 loaner I had last week did the same thing. Drove me nuts.
