MPe muffled and quiet after 45 minutes

Hi all - wondering if anyone can shed some light..

I drove from Sydney to Canberra on the weekend, and by the time I arrived in Canberra the sound of my exhaust had completely changed - it sounded totally muffled and had lost all the rasp - since the trip when the car/exhaust is warmed up it is sounding the same, totally different to how it used to be (sounds almost like a standard exhaust again)

Setup
2016 F80 ZCP
MPe with about 11,000kms
Valve controller

I have checked to make sure the valves are open and can't think of anything else that could be causing this - any ideas?

MPE muffler is prone to crack..

Inspect the rear section since such issue may cause change in sound

I would think a crack would make it louder and more raspy though?

There have been failures reported with the muffler itself unrelated to cracking.

Going to get it inspected next week - out of warranty so no real point dealing with BMW at this stage.

Is there any easy way to tell if there might be an internal/baffling issue without opening it up?

If there is no cracking then it's almost certainly a baffling issue.

Even if it's out of warranty - if you bought it from BMW I would give it a try - there are known issues with this exhaust and they might be willing to cover it. No harm in trying.

Bought used, so i'll see how i go..

Essentially trying to rule everything out before i get it opened up - the change did coincide with the software in the car being updated to solve a bluetooth issue so i'm racking my brain to figure out how and if this could have affected it

Garage List
valves are probably stuck (closed)? double check looking through the tips with a flash light. very easy to tell.

my valves were stuck as well (but open, which rattled like hell).

Checked the valves, they are opening and closing correctly

It might be a problem with the baffles.

Stuart from BMR had a customer with this exact problem. Reach out to him with a PM
