For what it's worth the catalytic converter uses the heat to perform the chemical reaction to replace the more toxic/pollutive exhaust gases with less toxic/pollutive exhaust gases. |

I have had some chattering from my ER and I have been told by others and installers fitment isn't always 100%. I'm guessing flex pipes really help there as I have never heard of that with Akra or Eisenmann.

Doesn't the downpipes retain more heat WITH the catylist ?
Without the reaction from the cats, shouldn't the DPs ONLY heat up as high as the EGT outlets and not much more ? |

This is correct, but getting DPs with a flex joint isnt much more money, so why not just do it?
