Not an M3 but figured I would post E38 Pics

So I actually havent been doing to many mods to the M3 lately. I will probably supercharge down the line, but basically I have been mostly modding my E38 Sport.

Did some gauge overlays, getting the black bumper trim wrapped (in a few weeks), put in OEM Sirius and bluetooth, cleaned up a bunch of interior parts to make them look brand new again like the rear deck that was faded purple. Putting in one of the BSW Ghost subwoofer systems to replace the rear 4 speaker DSP Sub that was a mess. Also rewrapping the steering wheel and upgraded the interior lighting and exterior handles to LED

I have been spending a lot of time in the E38 forums I figured I would post a few here!

Its a 2001 E38 740i Sport, the true sports had a 3.15 Diff, high tq stall convertor, upgraded sport suspension and Steptronic (plus M par wheels, shadowline trim, sport steering wheel etc.) This car is fast big and still handles great!

Anyway here are a few shots. When the car is all back together I will post an update.

Hands down my favorite 7er still, especially the LCI sport version. There's a local guy here that threw in an S62 with 6MT in his. It's a hell of a car

Yea I have seen that guy on another forum. I am really tempted to do this but I want to keep this car an automatic since the M3 is a stick. The S62 will not work with an auto without a TON of work that's really not worth it to me. But its a sick car!

Yea I wouldn't do it either. If I was going to get something with an S62 and MT, I'd stick to the E39 M5 in the first place. How long have you had the 7er?

I actually almost got on a year ago. I was looking for a cheap DD, and as we both know, there's usually nothing cheap about a 7er when it does go wrong, so I decided to go with a boring 4Runner instead. Still love them though.

I have had it about a year and a half when I got rid of my 330 as the daily. I only have 2 parking spots in Chicago, so except for around the block I havent really driven the car since May when I switched it out for the M3. Its getting cold again here so the M3 will go in storage around November and the 7 will be back to full time duty until the spring.

Its definitely not cheap, I bought it from a guy who has a BMW shop in NJ and it was in very good condition. Cats were replaced, it was tuned, cooling system replaced (a weak spot), and everything in the car worked which is rare, so so far so good. I love driving it, now with the rewrapped wheel and OEM sirius and bluetooth it will make it that much more comfortable. The only big thing I know will come eventually is the timing guides go which is a big expense. I will probably fix that myself when it happens but its a 20 hour plus job. Good thing we have 3 cars lol.

I watch these all the time as I always wanted a black 740i dropped on some nice wheels. They're so cheap now too. Will be curious to here how reliable it would be as a daily

They are cheap to buy expensive to maintain. There is a huge difference between a $4-5000 car with no records and an $8-9000 car with cooling systems changed, timing guides done etc. Timing guides alone is a $2-3000 job.

But if you maintain them they are a pleasure to drive, especially a sport. It's my winter DD.

Exactly what OP said. They are dirt cheap to buy, but it'll add up quick if no maintenance was done. For what I was looking for (cheap, reliable, add oil and go), it just didn't fit the bill, otherwise I'd totally be driving one as a daily.

There was an Imola Red (yes, you read that right) 740i Sport that popped up not too far from here for $7000. How sweet would that have been? They just don't make them like they used to....

Awesome car it has come a long way!

We used to have two E38s in my family, the 740iL and the 750iL with the V12. We have since moved on and my father replaced the 750iL with an S55 AMG and replaced that with an S65 AMG. We still miss the E38s though, that's where it all started for us now everyone in our family drives German. Thanks the Transporter movie and Goldeneye lol.

Very nice car but like it was pointed out the maintenance is high and that is why I stick with the E46 M3 as a DD. I will be getting the E92 in the spring as the nice day/weekend car while the Explorer picks up kid duty. LOVE this platform though! Liking the upgrades you are doing too!

This was a couple of months ago, guy was desperate to sell so he says. I didn't bother contacting him because I had already decided against an E38. But that is one rare bird!

I know red is probably not the color of choice for a 7 series, but it's one of my favorite BMW colors, so I'd totally drive one

Its so tempting, all the True Sports were short wheelbase. They had iL's as sports but that was more of an appearance package.

If I had not just done so much recently to my car to get it the way I want I would entertain it. I just dont feel like moving everything over right now. All the wiring while not hard is a pain.
