It kills me that people are so surprised when this happens. For instance, if you are going to trade in your used car for a new car, the dealer benefits in two ways and you have a little bit of leverage. If you are just selling it to a used dealer, they are going to try and low-ball you hard to see if they can get away with it. Some stupid and/or desperate the sellers may actually bite.. Selling your vehicle to a used car dealer is the worst way to dispose of a vehicle.

BTW, Blackbook values are just a tool for professionals to screw over people. Go to bmw.ca to see what used ones from the dealers cost. There is no way anyone should accept BB money for their vehicle.

edit: Just checked 330s with Vancouver area dealers, and they are asking about $45-46k.

i know what you mean, i'm just frustrated cause i checked the prices for 2nd hand 330s, similar to mine....they are sold around 48K.....and even if i give 5K for the dealership for profit, that still leavesd me with 43K......i dunno how they quoted me 33K....

i guess i'll sell it privately....

Sell it privately. It's definitely more hassle, but that's the only way to maximize value.

Best way I found to sell a used vehicle is to list it in the auto trader. This beats out local paper because your car can be viewed by a larger audience.
Where exactly do you live? Vancouver cars seem to get a lot of attention, due to the mild winters. I know a lot of people here in Edmonton who shop for Vancouver cars specifically.

As for legal documents, get two "bill of sale" forms from your local registry. One copy for you and one for the buyer. Insure you sign the back of your "pink" card and the buyer gets this copy.

No taxes are applicable in a private sale. Those forms you keep, one for you and one for the buyer, just in case there is a dispute over the agreement.
Oh and remember to remove your plate, the buyer should have thier own plate.

You don't pay the PST. The buyer does. When you complete the forms, there is a spot for 'price sold' where you'd figure out and put down the PST amount. The buyer is responsible for paying this to the gov't.
