Winter tires + sports package on 335i?

Hey all...

Just curious for those of you with the sports package on the 335i, what rims (size) and winter tires do you guys and gals run through the winter?

I'm considering getting the 19" upgrade (Style #230) but I just can't seem to find any 19" winter tires

I'm thinking I may have to reconsider the 19" wheel upgrade haha

check tirerack..

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...er=19&x=18&y=7

they have various tires available in your fitment. remember to run NON-staggered in winter for best results.

If you find a winter set 225/35/19 and 255/35/19...you have to let me know...I have been looking for them for a while. Meanwhile, I am looking for 18 coz I don't think I will find 19 with the correct profile.

225/45/17 is the preferred winter size.

Most people go DOWN to 17" for the winter for these reasons:

1. In cold temperature your shocks tend to get stiffer. Going down to 17" helps to soften the effects because of the extra flex offer by the taller sidewalls.

2. Your wheels are more likely to bend or getting damage in the winter because of all of those hard ice and snow ridges you have to driver over and scrape your wheels against, plus potholes and and gaps from heaved pavements your car will fall into at speed. Going down to 17" helps to soften the impacts and may just save your wheels.

So to me going UP to 19" does not make a lot of practical sense. Even staying with 18" sounds iffy.

I'm going to get 19's since I have the tire and rim insurnace so I'm not really worried about the damage!!

but you still have to buy the tires and so far I only found 19" with 265/35/19 with cost over $572 for 2 and 225/40/19 with cost over $480 for 2....OUCH!! And I am not sure 40 profile will work or not.

The problem may be in the offset.

My 17" Rials from TireRack fit my E93 with sport. They are 17X8, 30 offset, with Dunlop 3D 225/45-17 runflats.

+1. The standard size tires are 17", so it's more than likely some do fit.

That's what I thought/read as well. So it would have to be at least 18" rim for the winter tires.

I saw the post that ctgazer made with the link to tirerack.com, but those tiresr are 235 wide... would that fit on the rear 19" rim as well? I thought 235 were for 8.5" wide rims... while the 19's in the rear are 9.5" wide I think? so it would have to be at least 255 wide for the tire - at least thats what makes sense in my mind (could be blatantly wrong and off the wall).

nah, 235 can stretch to a 9.5 wheel. it is the minimum required by a 9.5. im currently using a 225 tire on a 9-inch wide rear. here is a exerpt taken from the bridgestone tire webpage...

You can get Pirelli 240 Sottozero tires in 265/30x19 and 235/35x19 to fit the 230 rims. These are winter certified tires for ice and snow.

There still a lot of myths about winter tires that should have died many years a go….1970 tires design has long gone. It is all about rubber compounds and tread design these days. Another myth is narrow tires provide better traction in snow is just silly but still seems to be believed by those who do no research.

There is at least 3 tire manufactures that you can select from and don’t use the Tire Rack for what is available for tire size selection because it grossly incomplete in a lot cases.

well i bought winter set of wheels

too which were 18" because 17" didn't fit

so make sure you try them on before anything

like before mounting tires

BMW recommended 17" too but some wheels don't fit

That's why I bought from TireRack. They call you to review the whole order and check to make sure everything fits before processing it. They also email you an online survey a week after you receive the order to see whether the guy you talked to gave you good service.

I have 225/45-17 Dunlop Wintersport M3 DSST's on 17" OEM rims off a 328 E92 coupe (onto my 335 E90 w/ sport package). I checked the rim and it clears the calipers.
