That law will never stand up in court.

Actually if you look at the last couple accidents in the GTA you'll notice most of them were careless high speed idiots. This law is nothing new... if you were caught going over 52km/h previous this law and charged you would of loss 6 points anyway. The only difference is your car will be impounded and min fine $2000 given...
So be careful you woodbine race guys...

What a loser. Last I checked there are plenty of cars that can break the 150 barrier.....like everyone

It is a very ridicuous law....... its happening because of elections too....
Speeding should be fined, but impounding should go towards street racing....racing should be taken to the track |

So police can now impound your car on the spot?
Puh-lease. Unless something has changed, I believe one is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. How long will it take before this "law" is tossed out? Probably the moment police and the province are forced to reimburse an innocent driver thousands of dollars for expense and inconvenience. |

Personally I think that anyone that is racing on public roads where you can end up killing my friends and family should simply be shot by the police let alone be fined and have their car impounded. For all you idiots that think you own race cars....take it to the track. 150+ in a 100 zone is racing and whether you're doing it with another car is irrelevant There are too many examples of people getting killed by morons driving their cars too fast and many more examples of near misses.

i ran into a slacking cop behind my parents condo last week, and i asked him if he thought it made sense. His reply was yes and no.
yes to modded crap and racers, but no to cars like mine and mature responsible people. He said, "for example, your car, a bmw (335), is a lot more secure on the road in the hands of a responsible adult, than in a young'en (im late 30s). I see the argument, and think it could serve as a detterent. i just think it's overkill, looking for additional charges to lay to kids racing.

the posted limit is 100km/h, but traffic can move at up to 160. there is a big difference between going 50 over in a 50 zone compared to going 50 over in a 100 zone. |

I agree with the purpose of this law-getting street racers off the streets.
But the lack of the right to appeal the inpound and fine means that anyone with a good lawyer can get an injunction and question do a Charter challenge of the law. The challeange would have a goodchance at success. I also agree that 50 over the limit in the CIty can and often is more dangerous than 50 over the limit on the HWY, even though the absolute speed would be higher.

This is BS and amounts to providing the officer at the scene complete discretion to charge you under this law. Without appeal, you have no means to dispute the infraction. Radar speeds have never been easy to dispute but what is the list of discretionary " infractions covered by this law?! What the heck is "stunt" driving and what is a "hot-rock racer"? Next time you do "wheelies" in an empty snow covered parking lot late at night, they can impound your car? And already they are stereotyping drive habits based on brand of vehicle driven by stating that BMW drivers will be upset. These folks need a reality check.
How about targeting people that can barely drive at the best of times and insist on doing it while using a cell phone, having a heated discussion and driving with one hand. Far more dangerous than speeding and proven via several "subjective" tests to be equivalent to driving impaired. Oh, I forgot, crap load of revenue at stake for the cell phone providers with powerful friends in various offices of government ... Welcome to the People's Republic of Canada. Next, we will cap horsepower, outlaw 94 octane fuel (racing fuel you know) and require a license to have children as you have proven to have a genetic disposition to racing. |
