Question Which tire monitoring system on '07 e90's?

Hi,

I've searched on the board and in this forum and believe that my car has just the normal flat tire monitor (valve stem is flexible black rubber). I'm was trying to get some info from Mike @ **********s and he seems to think that all 2007 e90's use TPMS so I'm getting some conflicting information. Can anyone confirm this for me before I order my wheels?

Thanks

It the stem is rubber, it's FTM. Just order your new rims, don't have to worrry about any sensors.

I believe the optional 19" rims for 335i come with TPM but they are not functional. The car still uses FTM.

Really? My dealer told me I had it but I assumed he was full of sh_t. Is there a way to activate it?

lols..canadian's spec dont use the valve system. they use a monitor that checks the rotational speed which when different, means you have a flat!

I think we all know that, but I was questioning what halB said, i.e. that the 230 wheels came with the TPMS valves. Whether true or not, I can't tell. But yes I guess it really doesn't matter in any case...

TPM equipped wheels have thick metal valve stems instead of conventional skinny black rubber ones. Also that the holes on the wheel that the valves fit through seem to be bigger.

So far every Style 230 19" wheels I've seen has that big metal valve stem. I am not sure whether there is actually a TPM inside, or they just put in a thick metal stem to fill up that hole. Regardless of whether there is a TPM inside, your 07 car cannot receive or process the signal because it does not have a TMPS receiver. There is nothing there to activate. It still uses FTM like everybody else in Canada.

I was told that all Canadian models use the Passive FTM system. which means that the tire pressure is monitor by the ABS system measuring the tire's rotation speed to determine the tire's pressure.
