Bluetooth as audio source?
Hey everyone,
Has a question on my 08 E92 335i. I have paired my phone up via blue tooth for calls but don't see any way to use blue tooth to send audio (music). I understand I can plug my phone in but I just don't understand why they would make your voice calls pair through blue tooth but not anything else. So what are people doing to pair audio through blue tooth? Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! |

blackberry gateway or aftermarket modules.
The newer cars have it but its pretty expensive and hard to do with the older cars. Do a search for combo box.
The cheap way out is something like the blackberry gateway or there are some other threads on other similar adaptors that play through the aux Input. I believe the Mobridge unit has A2DP and the Dension gateway 500 may offer it as an add on . Both are pretty expensive just to add USB and A2DP when you consider these come along with bluetooth phone on most aftermarket decks in the 250 + range . http://www.crutchfield.com/S-atUkhcu...de-System.html KOS-A300 never caught on the reviews said it had problems. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=777235 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...highlight=a2dp search=a2dp returns a lot of stuff. Yes, bluetooth music playback capability showed up in the 2011 model year, post-September 2010 build cars. COMBOX is the part you want to research for retrofit, however I don't know if that retrofit would be possible on a 2008 car without a full CIC retrofit. Getting into some serious $$$ at that point.

I installed a Dension 500 in my 2006 E90 and routed the USB cable from the Dension box in the trunk to the console and added the later USB/AUX socket to the console. I had to add CDC to the coding (which the Dension emulates) and it shows up in my iDrive as an MP3 CD (with all the ID3 text and stuff working). I have a 32GiB stick in the console with all my MP3s on it. The Dension I bought used on ebay for about $200.

If you've ever used a CD with MP3s on it in your BMW, then it is about the same, but the Dension uses the 6 CDs of a CDC as different menus for categorizing and other features. CD5 is the main root MP3 directory from which you can navigate by artist, album, A-Z, filename, etc. to the song you want. It will use the steering wheel controls or iDrive knob to select and play. It's pretty seamless and you'd swear that it was a factory MP3 setup except for the "CD5" at the top of the screen.
I have no idea how it integrates into non-iDrive systems. |
