New Progess Pics: 06 ///M Roadster.. M6, H&R, etc
I got my springs put in yesterday. For those that checked my other post about the knocking in the front end.. the more I drove around the less I heard the noise. I took it for a spin today and didnt hear really anything. My top rattles a bit more than it used to when its up but that a whole other discussion.
Anyways the car is starting to come togerther. I opted not to tint the windows in this car. The list of mods is in my signature. The other thing I did was add vinyl overlays to the amber front corners. The vinyl is a bit off but its the closest I could find. I think it looks better than the amber. It was raining today so I had to take pics with the top up but I think the gunmetal in the M6 wheels goes pretty nice with the top. As of now I dont have to many more plans for it, any suggestions please let me know.

Looks good with the M6 wheels, but I'm not sure how much better it looks now than before you but in the springs...how far did it drop you, an inch or so?

In a previous thread Iraxi mentioned how much he hated them at first, do to the ride height increase...he put the H&R springs in there to drop it. Not sure about the measurements on how much higher it was without the springs than stock |

How come a different set of wheels can indrease the ride height?
Also my question about if they fit, was more aimed at the fact that to fit some wheels you need the bodywork of the car to be machined. I tried this with the OEM BMW E46 M3 18" wheels, on my standard E46 Coupe. The front wheels fit just fine, but the rear wheels touched the chassis of the car, whenever I drove over a bump or had people in the back. But now I have the Z4, which seems to have very big wheel arches, so I was hoping to get the OEM BMW M6 wheels, with no modification. Sincerely, Michael |

Well in most cases the larger wheels don't actually increase the ride height (sometimes they will if the new overall wheel/tire combo wasnt setup properly OR with a correct calculation there may be a ess then 5% increase or decrease in overall diameter).
What actually happens isn't a change in ride height in most cases, but a visual trick. THe larger diameter wheel puts less rubber between it and the fender of the car and the tires are subseqently going to be a lower profile meaning a sharper cutoff towards the tread. The combination of which is a visual trick making it look like there is more gap between the edge of the tire and the fender making you think the car is lifted up now when its actually the same height off the ground. Its pretty damn frustrating sometimes!! |

Thanks everyone for the kind remarks. The wheels are reps. The place I got them from no longer makes them in 19' though. The pics are with the H&Rs on and yes their is 10mm spacers on the rear to make it perfectly flush. I love the combo, I get compliments a few times a day. I had a guy put down the window at a stop light and ask if it was an M series, and when I said ya he turns to his friend and said "see i knew it! its one of those Bimmers with 500HP.

Nice! This is what mine will look like VERY soon. I am getting the M6 reps in the same size. The anthracite inserts should match well with my silver/gray M Roadster.
