2010 Idrive and Voice Dialing

Just picked up my 2010 328xi with Idrive/Nav. I am trying to figure out how to voice dial a number from my phonebook via Bluetooth. My CA and manual both say you must store and save a name in a separate entry to do so. My friend has a 2008 335i and says his can dial names directly from his downloaded phone book. Did BMW remove this functionality?????

i dunno if it's different, but for my '09, i push the voice command button and say "phonebook" then say the name, last name first ie. "doe, john" and it dials for me. This works for numbers on my phone's contact list. I don't need to store numbers onto the idrive or anything.

I have an iPhone. On my 2010, iDrive downloads (only when phone is connected, ie. more like sync then download) my phonebook automatically once enabled on the phone. To voice dial I say "phonebook" then "choose name" then say the name.

Is there a way to switch it so you can say "John, doe" and not the other way around?

Nice job guys. It worked. Manual and salesman both don't tell me this, what would we do without these forums??!!! Where is the complete list of voice commands for 2010 Idrive? I searched and couldn't find much.

I believe it goes by however you have sort order in the phone. On my iPhone I have last name first, so that is how it appears in the car and the name must be said Last then First.

If you want to learn the commands, the easy way is to say "voice commands" on a particular section and it'll tell you all the possible commands.

Thanks. It's so annoying that it's not on the manual or a pdf you can download so you can view it.

So - have you looked at the owner's manual?

Try page 249 where all the voice commands start. It's also in the .pdf manual you can download from the BMW US website.

On my '09 with my iPhone 3GS, like others have said, I just say "My Contacts" and then it asks for the name and I say it as it appears. It will then confirm and I say yes and then I can call it. No need to add them a second time into the iDrive.

Yes there is. When the Contacts list is displayed, press the 'Option' button and scroll down. There will be an option to have it display last name, first name or vice-versa. Very handy if you have your iPhone sort last name, first name but want to say the name normally to the car.
