Unhappy Voice Commands using Iphone....

Well I finally did it, I broke down and upgraded to an Iphone. I have to say its pretty awesome, I do like it. However I seem to have an issue making calls using voice commands from the bimmer. It seems to always get the name I say wrong, and way wrong, no where near what I said.
I was wondering if anyone with an Iphone could give me any pointers to make the voice commands for dialing a name in my phonebook work better....

Thanks

First off, no one here is obligated to help you. Piss off.

Second, did you train the your voice command to dial specific names?

Geeee what helpful and constructive words...

BTW... if you took a minute to read my signature, you'd have seen I have Idrive, and therefore DON'T need to train my voice command.

Maybe you should read up on these cars, b4 you go shooting your mouth about stuff you don't know.... so maybe you should PISS OFF!

wow, what a sad person you are. I really hope no one helps you.

And by the way, for someone who can't get his voice commands to work, I really don't think you should be talking shit about my knowledge of the car.

First of all, are you talking about using the voice command on the new iPhone 3GS, or the voice command on the car to dial?

If you are talking about voice command on the car, are you using the right command? Although it sounds like a stupid question, I had a problem with it not understanding the first time I tried to save a name/number combo on the car. The manual that came with the car said the command was "store" name and that was failing 100% of the time. I finally said "help" and found that the command the car recognizes is "save". The manual was wrong. Once I used "save", it worked fine.

If you are tying to dial using the voice command on the iPhone 3GS, the software in the car may not be updated to make it work with the new Apple phone and software. When you push the voice command button on the wheel, I pretty sure it will only look at the voice command name/numbers that you have stored in the car's phonebook, it doesn't search the iPhone's voice command phonebook.

From what I see here you have a 2006 3-series with iDrive, yes?

That said if you have the iPhone paired up successfully with BT, can you go to the iDrive screen in the A-Z section under comm. and see all your phone numbers just as they are in the phone? If you do, everything should work fine. There is no need to program the car any further or do anything to "store" numbers or voice commands.

You should be able to press the voice command button, wait for the beep, and say "dial bob jones mobile" for example. It is important to say the name exactly like it is displayed in the address book, ie. last name first or first name first, followed by the type of number (mobile/home/work).

If this works but gets you the wrong entry, there is nothing wrong with your car or the phone, this is just as good as voice recognition is gonna get in your car.

Most of my entries work very well, but a few names will not work at all. I find it helps to just say the command in a normal voice at a conversational speed.... don't try to overly enunciate.

I had a 2006 330i and now 2007 335i and this is how they both worked.

Finally someone who knows how the Voice dialing works with Idrive.
Thank you... I tried your suggestion of adding the 'type' of phone number it is, and it's been working MUCH better since...
Thanks again.
