Rotor Life Expectancy

Curious to know what the life expectancy is for the rotors on these? And how much the replacement cost is.

I just replaced all 4 rotors and pads at 23,000 miles. I live in NYC so my driving mostly city. I really didn’t expect to have to replace brakes this early but it is a heavy vehicle. If you do mostly city driving, $850 for a brake maintenance package is a steal.

The cost of parts at the dealer is ridiculous. They want around double the cost of what you can get online. I did the work myself so that was a huge savings. This is what I paid for parts…

When it’s on bmw do they replace the rotors every time pads are needed or do they base it on rotor thickness?

I just did my rotors at 31K miles based min thickness printed on them. Also in NYC so lots of stop and go traffic which is hard on the brakes. Pads had plenty of meat left on them but i swapped them out for isweep since the oem pads squealed like a old school bus 24/7 while coming to a complete stop.

Doing brakes on this is the same as any other car with the exception you need the bimmerlink app to put the rears in service mode to disengage the parking brake.

Don't need to change the wear pad sensor unless the circuit is tripped. This is how I have done it in every BMW I've owned since 2000.

I had to change my front sensor due to corrosion causing the brake light to turn on. I ended up changing the rear rear sensor when i did the brakes as a precautionary step since it was cheap and added another minute to the overall install.
