Will I be a able to get a M3 in 2026?
My current lease expires in 06/2026. You guys think I’ll be able to get my hands on a g80 before it becomes hybrid or electric?

Yes. G80s are in production through February 2027.

6-8 months before your scheduled lease end is a decent time to start looking/ordering. |

As stated above, the current ICE g80 is scheduled to be produced in your timeframe, but who knows what could change, availability, corresponding time lines, pricing, etc. in the next 2+ years from now.

CAFE standards dictate 40mpg fleet average by 2026. Allocations could be harder to come by. Every M3 sold lowers the average and they have to sell more electrics to make up for it.

As long it’s produced, it’ll sell. They have been very aggressive with their Ev line so I expect they will continue selling more than enough EVs to offset. The question will be, how much more will they keep increasing ICE msrp to keep pushing people to EV. |

No.
I used to be a fan of the early adopter syndrome. But I got burned on three cars. The first was my 2004 V70R. Bought it used in 2005. Should have waited for a 2005 to show up...Volvo made many subtle tweaks and small improvements, none of which were substantial but added up on their own...would have been nice. And there were also teething problems. Next was the car that replaced it. 2011 535i. First year, fully loaded. That car was the first for a 5 series to have EPS, first to have DHP (active anti-roll bars), first to have a "sport auto" transmission separate from the standard transmission, etc. That car was a FREAKING NIGHTMARE. So, so many issues. I ditched it after a few years because I couldn't take it. BMW was definitely still figuring some of that stuff out. Finally, my 2013 991.1 Carrera S. I didn't realize how many subtle changes Porsche makes throughout the life cycle of their cars. 2013 is the second MY for the 991 and the 991 was a big change to 911's. First 911 with EPS, first time the engine wasn't completely behind the rear wheels, first with a 7 speed manual gearbox, etc. The only thing not all new was the engine, but that was really made for the 997's 6 speed manual and it showed. Later 991.1's are MUCH better resolved. The suspension and steering in particular. So no, sometimes a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. In the case of cars, they are SO sophisticated now and automakers have absolutely adopted the "first buyers are beta testers" mentality, particularly on the software. Look at VW's disaster of their UI. That's why I'm absolutely not fussed about getting a pre-LCI M3 same way I wasn't fussed about getting my wife a pre-LCI Cayenne. In the Cayenne's case, it was 100% the right decision. They made a lot of small, subtle tweaks to make the car feel cheaper (aka obvious cost cutting) and while there are a FEW things I would like, there are more than I am glad I don't have. The next gen M3 will be out for a while. If you hadn't noticed, automakers are stretching their platforms LONGER as the conversion from ICE to EV happens. The Macan got TWO refreshes. Really. The "new" Panamera is dropping soon...I'm pretty sure it's just the second refresh of the current platform. The Cayenne isn't doing a double refresh, but this one (2024) they spent a LOT more than they normally would have and extended the model run by 2 if not 3 years. So get yourself a G80, see what happens and go from there. |

As the "6MT forever" guy, the 2026 G80 will be the one I will get to own for a long time (my current G80 is a lease). I am still concerned about the availability and price of the last year G80 vehicles as the last full ICE (and 6MT) bimmer ever made...

We still have a lot of uncertainty about the next gen post-G80 M3.
If the G90 M5 plug-in hybrid sucks balls, then the value of the G8x platform will go way up. If the G90 is acceptable, then maybe the PHEV M3 won't be so bad. Based on the XM, I'm not so confident. More straight line delta v is not what these cars need, esp. if it comes with less dynamics. |

You’re 5 months into your lease and your thinking about 2026? You might not even be alive in 2026😂. My advice, enjoy the car and don’t worry about things out of your control 5 months into a new lease. YMMV.
