Software update confusion?
Anyone else find this message confusing?
Did it update the software or is it asking me to update it from my mobile app? I use the BMW app but cannot figure out any way to update the software on my actual X5 (2023 eDrive). And I thought it was dangerous to use my mobile while driving Thoughts? |

It is a common problem, the vehicle saying the updated is available but not the app. Once it does become available on the app you will get a message. Given all of the problems with updates, I take the position that they are not available and will not install if they become available. Unfortunately that is the case more often than not.

If you use CarPlay, perhaps AA, there is nothing special you need to do in order to connect it to the vehicle since it would already be connected. As long as the vehicle shows it as connected that should be all that is needed.

FWIW I'm also seeing the X5 tell me that update is available (11/2022.60) for a few days now but nothing in the myBMW app. I removed the vehicle even, and uninstalled/reinstalled the app, but no luck.
Under Check Status -> Services -> Remote Software Upgrade it just says "No software upgrade available". We've driven the car multiple times throughout the week while the vehicle says it has an available update, but I cannot get the app to agree. My wife and I both have Android phones, next up I'll try using my daughter's iPhone to see if there's any issue there. desmo907 what type of phone are you using? |

Got the same and now the app shows Apps connected. Terrible user experience. No idea what to do. Lol

Note, the WiFi connection to the vehicle is not the hot spot connection when it's dealing with uploading the firmware to the vehicle. The hot spot connection is a different channel.

me too, same thing. for 2 weeks I have had message in idrive to update but not in the app. I've done updates several times (not in this new car) and never seen this disparity.

I have the same issue with the same version numbers. I thought it was because I need an oil change but interesting to see more people having this problem. I’m a bit concerned that I can’t immediately install update due to the recall in the update.
I have oil change appointment tomorrow so will see if dealer can update the iDrive. |

Getting the same issue. Been a similar message: app software is downloaded on my phone, ready for installation and to check the screen on the car. Screen on the car shows that installation will be ready and will notify me. Been like this for about two weeks now. Genius says I'm not the only one with this issue so I'll wait. Said they can't do it manually but I'm sure if you get your car serviced, should be updated with no issues.

Finally installed last night. The user experience on the app was bad. It said Apps "not connected" with no explanation what that means. YouTube videos are useless.
Later the App (when driving) said the data had been transferred to the car and it would install when parked. At home I let it install in the car, and plugged in my L2 charger. This morning the charging light on the port was flashing red and the screen told me it did not charge (I guess due to the software upgrade). So I unpluged and pluged back in....it will charge it this morning .... |

I have been seeing that same message for a week or so. Check the app nothing, finally this morning the app said there was an update available. They release it in waves apparently. If you dont see update in app it's coming. Just be a little more patient

The notes on the install specifically mention that charging will be interrupted, so no surprise there. Some other things will be weird until you drive the vehicle the next time, and some of the items you may have set one way may be reset back to the default.

The problem with this is most dealers (USA) do not want to do it for fear they will brick a module and then the car will be unusable while they wait a long time to get a replacement module from Germany.

Overly cumbersome, time consuming and frustrating experience.
Do not even try to download the update to your phone over the vehicle's wi-fi. BMW should do better. |

My last update was by the dealer to 7/2021.85 on my 2019 X5. No OTA or notice in the MyBMW app about an available update.
Massive disappointment in BMW for providing such a shoddy service. |
