Front Cup holders on the X1

Hey! As you probably read in previous threads, European models of the X1 don’t have adaptive cup holders in the front (even though the rear cup holders have rubber tips…

I’ve been trying to find a third-party accessory to attach to the front cup holders to make them adaptive.

Anyone have any recommendations?
Thanks!

There is a topic already - you can just order to US market ones...its around 80euro without discounts.

That's good to know, but having to pay €80 / £75 to buy a bit of plastic that is fitted to US/Canadian spec. X1's, on principle really annoys me. Talk about penny pinching - you would think it would be more bother for the factory having to stock two different kinds of cup holder instead of just standardising on one type

Possibly sourced from different suppliers due to different regions.

My understanding is that all X1's are made in the same factory though?

Very true, totally forgot about that. Now I'm unsure why they would use two different types.
Maybe Europeans typically don't like the style North America gets?

this is my guess:

typical Amerikanisch BMW driver: "ouch.... my 26-ounce cafe latte grande cup tipped over and my leg is burned.... speed-dialing my lawyer Jackie. he will be suing BMW USA for not having a secure cupholder"

BMW USA: "here's your $5 million in old $20 and $100 bills, you agree to keep mouth shut, ja?"

BMW Deutschland: "where is Wilhelm? Gunther over at our USA division just paid $5 million to some @#^@$# American. tell him to make sure that the new X1 for Amerikaners must be over-engineered to prevent cups tipping over"

Hello! First post, can anyone share the link for the adaptive cup holders? Can't seem to find the relevant post anywhere :/

Actually, although I couldn't find it anywhere in this thread, I found the part by googling - so for anyone else looking for it, it is part number #51169496948

Will see how annoying it is once the car arrives but considering this.

Does anyone know how complex it is to replace?

Have owned my X1 for a month now and I can confirm that the lack of springs in the cup holders is damn annoying! My water bottle and insulated mug really rattle about in them.

I have Googled that part number and so far only a couple of sites in the US and one in Denamrk have come up; nothing in the UK. The small image of the cupholder does not even confirm if it has springs or not, so I'm loathe to risk ordering it from another country, espeically given the price!

Thanks for this! Looks like there's just to screws under the mat holding it in.

...and apparently some very strong clips too! - the guy who posted that guide said he couldn't pull the cupholder assembly out using his fingers and said he had to use a 'hook' (maybe a translation error).

Funny how Europeans get stuff on their vehicles that US spec doesn’t, but that I would like. Also funny that US vehicles get the adaptive cupholders and Europeans want them…but I have absolutely no use for them, even though I have them. I never drink in the car.

Does seems odd for something that is going to cost pence doesn't it.

Found on UK market car!

I was just browsing through BMW UK Used cars online and came across a X1 with the Adaptive Cupholder fitted to a M Sport advertised for sale. The car is registered January 2023. Strangely the next car on the list, with identical spec and also registered January 2023 has the plain cupholder. So, no apparent logic to it all.

Most likely bought the adaptive holders separately and had them fitted

I would rather have a cupholder delete. I actually liked how Mercedes did a removable bracket for the cupholders, as I rarely use those things (if at all).

It’s a funny old thing the cup holder. I have been driving for 35 years and have never used a cup holder for anything but storing cash for meters. I would much rather it was a more useful storage solution or just use the space to make the dash more attractive design wise.
