Customizing Instrument Cluster

Hi,
I'm new to the G42 platform. Had been looking at a few different platforms, with the F48 M2c and the M42 230i/240i as my top picks.
I drove both the M2c and 230i with Msport packs. While the M2c was a monster, this car is going to be my daily, so the super track focused suspension of the M2c was pretty darn stiff for day to day driving. I then drove a 230i with the Msport packages. I was really impressed with the overall package. It wasn't as explosive as the M2c, but it did everything so well: RWD, quick enough to have plenty of fun, but you can still have fun without hitting go to jail speeds, great interior, solid driving dynamics, and good MPG to boot. I was sold and ended up purchasing a '22" BG 230i, pretty loaded, save for the Dynamic Handling package and HUD.

The only thing I'm not crazy about is the dash layout. I'm just not used to all this tech.... I'd be happy with a round tach and speedo plus three smaller gauges. From what I've read, modding is currently limited. With that in mind, I actually like the comfort dash set up the best. It has longer needles for the Tach and Speedo gauges, but I typically run Sport plus, or Sport individual.... I think the gauges in Sport are tougher to read. I'd also like to be able to see what gear is selected if I'm in sport auto, rather than just seeing "D".

UPDATE:

The work-around that I found was to disabling the driving mode display. I can't believe I didn't try it sooner, but if you go to "car", "display", you just have to uncheck "driving mode display". This gives you the standard display whether you are in Sport, Comfort, or Eco.
You'll still get gear info in manual mode, but you get the longer needles in sport/sport plus/sport individual, so I'll live with this until I find an aftermarket solution.

Thanks ,
Bill

to see the gear in D you will most likely need the xHP transmission tune. I don't think there is a way with BimmerCode. also, do you have the sport HUD set to on? there is a little RPM gauge on there that I think is easy to read and understand.

EDIT: saw that it was a 230i instead. I'm not sure if it's the same settings as the 240i but I don't see why not

I don't have HUD so, I'm stuck there.....
I'm not sure how the dash layout differs, but
I just feel the tach and speedo layout for the
Comfort setting are easier to read at a glance
than the Sport gauges. Thanks for the input.

There is no way to make the comfort screen available in other driving modes.

To get gear display in all driving modes you need to get the transmission tune from XHP.

Thanks for the reply.
It looks like I'll just live with the instrument cluster - as is- for now.
I'm not sure I want to risk messing with the warranty at this point.
However, I'll keep my eyes open to see if anything pops for Bimmercode or the like.

Speaking of screen layouts, does anybody know if this screen is available on U.S. spec cars? I've seen this image on the net of Euro spec cars. Notice the Km/h and German language. I just have the 4 (or 3, can't remember) layouts. I thought maybe hopping into sport mode might give me that layout option. Negative. Sport Plus maybe? I haven't enabled that one yet, I'm in the car a week.

if you're talking about the graphs, press the BC button on your blinker stalk and it will cycle thru displays. I like using the fuel economy one on road trips

I’m not sure exactly what he’s referring to but if it’s the map view in the middle of the cluster, ID8 also has that. But the power and torque you can only put up on the center screen. I wish ID8 had this style gauges, the new angular ones are not as aesthetic

Nah LivingInSalt has it right. I don't have that layout in iDrive8, I know how to change the center content. Looks like BMW needs to push some additional options over the air in the future. That would look cool on the new screen and how about a classic analog gauge layout?

I did find a work-around for this issues and updated my original post.
It seems pretty obvious now that I've found the one option, but figured I'd post just in case anyone else is having issues.
