buying an allocation for M60
I'm talking to my dealer about switching my order for a 50 to an M60 and he draws up a quote that has a $2500 market adjustment cost. I asked it him what it was and he said it's used to buy an allocation from BMW to get a production number much faster than just placing something into the usual order bank. He says may 3-4 months vs 8-12 months.
Have you all heard of this before? He didn't mention this to me when I ordered my iX50 and wondering if this is legit. |

Have we heard about market adjustment costs? Sure. It's pure BS. You don't buy allocation. The dealer is given allocation to sell. The dealer adds whatever markup they like and we pay what we're willing to pay.
If it were me, I would move along because the CA isn't being truthful with you. This will vary from state-to-state and dealer-to-dealer but I don't think there is as much of a wait for the M60's as there are for the xDrive50. I have been offered an M60 with an almost immediate slot but the xDrive50 would net a couple of months before I would have a production number. So the 3-4 month seems correct but you likely don't need to pay a premium for that benefit. |

Talk to Day Laborer - he's great and might be able to find you something inbound, or an allocation. If we hit a recession, I hope as consumers we all keep a long memory on these kinds of dealers....the tables will turn soon enough.

Thanks everyone. I'm not a huge fan of this CA. He seems like a nice guy then was really difficult to get a hold off for awhile. Unfortunately, I already placed a deposit for my iX50 order so if I walk from him I lose that.
I was hemming and hawing about 50 vs 60. After I placed the order for the 50, there was that period of time a few months ago where all the options for the 50 dropped off, and now they are back. But I kind of got used the idea of getting a 60. Now that I know he's playing games, I guess it's just whether I want to pay the mark up to get a car sooner. There is no use talking to this guy, he's just a BSer. Either I play along or not. Still debating about the 50 vs 60. Like the M idea but then thinking about range...hard decisions! |

Yeah I thought about changing my allocation to an M60.
Decided against it, it looks identical to my xDrive50 and when I test drove the xDrive50 it was plenty fast for what I would do in it. Not once did I think "I could use more power". Figured it wasn't worth the extra $15K and my dealer wasn't going to charge me extra to change my allocation. To each their own though. |

There may be some local state laws but despite what the dealer says, in most cases your deposit is refundable in the US.
