BlackVue Dashcam Install

Hi all,

I recently installed my Blackvue DR900x Plus in my vehicle and wanted to share. I'm here to answer any questions and open to feedback about my install. I didn't want to hardwire the battery pack to the fusebox, so I opted for the 12v port.

is that a battery pack in the rear? if so, are you worried about it exploding/expanding in the heat?

Yes that's correct it is a battery pack. It is the blackvue brand made for dashcams. Do you recommend I put it in something, just to be on the safe side?

Can't recall, but when it's recording there's an active white light on the camera

I'm not sure how hot it gets in your area, but I have heard stories of batteries swelling in the heat. I don't know if dashcam-specific battery boxes have that issue tho.

Why didn't you go for BMW recorder instead?
Does yours have much better picture quality?
Can you post some samples?

I had both and I prefere BlackVue. You have way more options and configurations on BlackVue than in the bmw advanced car eye.

Btw bmw drive recorder only works in case of an accident or manually record trigger and no parking recording.

At the moment I don’t have any battery pack, still I do have parking recording and for now no issues with battery draining.

Thou I have the switch programmed to when it reaches 12v to turn the camera off to prevent running out of battery.

That install in the rear will only be for the MY2022 builds, MY2023 onwards doesn't have the 12v outlet in the rear.

I have the 2022 M240ix, and it sure seems like BMW significantly de-contented the vehicle for 2023. Maybe that was to offset the change and cost of iDrive8, but I prefer ID7.

As I waited an allocation, a buyer ahead of me didn't move forward with the purchase and the vehicle, equipped in the color and with every option I wanted, fell in my lap, otherwise I would have been in a 2023.

There is a BMW CA in Canada with a youtube channel AllenBMWDurham who had a 2022 M240ix and traded it for a 2023 M240ix and he goes through the new car and talks about what's been removed that video is HERE

Yet the car battery is about a foot away with space for a battery right next to it. You can easily put the Blackvue battery there.

The BMW recorder resolution is something like 960p. The detail is so poor, you would not be able to read the license plate of the vehicle that hit you.
