Anyone considering an RS3?

Does it drive different than the RS5? Is it more aggressive? I hated the RS5 when I drove it.

I specced a new 2023 RS3 with every package and it's less than $75K.

Would this be a huge downgrade?

It's a good looking car on the outside, but the interior absolutely kills it for me.

I was actually #1 on the list at my dealer for one - I do love the kyalami green. I loved my s3. However, as soon as I saw the G83 in person, I gave up my place in line - this is a wholly different category of car. That's a 75k car with a 35k interior. I couldn't live with it at that price point. Yes, it would be a massive downgrade. Acres of cheapo materials.

I agree wholeheartedly with this. I think the interior really lets this car down.

I did for a few weeks but each time I see the regular S3 I can’t get over how similar they are. As for the five cylinder I don’t think it’s enough to keep me entertained. But the brand new white RS6 avant in the neighborhood sure has me interested!

They are great little cars with a nice engine, but at the end of the day it's a FWD based platform and Audi's in general get boring pretty quick (speaking as a current Audi S5 SB owner).

If you're upgrading from a CTR/Golf R or something sure go for it. But going from a F80/G80 to a RS3 would be a downgrade.

On paper, it's a downgrade is every possible way: straight line performance, track performance, interior, FWD-based AWD etc.
I personally don't even think it looks that good either, but that's subjective.

It might sound better but that's about it for me.

They're not even in the same class. The RS3 is an overpriced Golf with one extra cylinder.

Different class but still an awesome little car. I'm sure the M3 will destroy it in every metric but I wouldn't be surprised if it were more fun to drive than a G8x comp xDrive.

It's going to be tough to find an unbiased opinion on a Bimmer forum.

That's fine, FWD cars can be quite fun too.

I have a 2018 RS3, and just ordered a 2023 M3. Definitely a different class, but the RS3 is special. It has 2 things going for it not mentioned: 1) You don't see them around very often. I might see one every 6 months or so, and living in Los Angeles, you see everything all the time. 2) The 5 cylinder engine is super simple to tune to over 500 hp (592hp/528tq at the crank is what is advertised). With just a tune, race plugs, intake, and intake elbow you can hit these figures on E85 (and you can use all of that without losing grip with w/ Quattro).
That said, it understeers when up to speed on canyon roads and you are not able to rotate the car in any real way. The new model is supposed to be able to drift, but I don't think there will be comparable tunes available soon...and who knows if the new differential can handle those hp/tq figures.
The knocks on the interior, especially the older version, are very true. The M3 is a much better all around sports car.

No doubt, but at that price point I would want it to feel like a rwd one.

Agree, interior is shit, especially the ridiculous centre console section with all that piano black plastic surrounding the small gear lever toggler or whatever it's called lol

I have rs3 right now. Bought one like week ago to hold me over till my m4 arrives. Its a great daily and during normal daily driving you really dont notice understeer that much. Launches are violent, not a lot of car can beat u from stoplight... it exceeded my expectation. Inline 5 sounds pretty amazing, when you hear it and see where sound is coming from (little subcompact car) its almost comical lol, kinda reminds me of one youtube video where they put super expensive exhaust on older model MB s class... u never expect and I like that part of it haha. Def gets attention, people are curious and wants to race on stoplight but its very hard to beat that sub 4 second launch from dig lol. Feel free to ask any questions!!
