Australian 2021 M3/M4 Sales results - some interesting outcomes

The 2021 M3/M4 sales have been released for Australia. Some interesting stats in there.

M3/M4 sales took number 1 from AMG C63 - perhaps no surprises given they were wrapping up last year for that model run.

2 facts did jump out to me:
- M3s outsold M4s 2 to 1. (464 vs 222)
- M3s had a 7.5% manual uptake and M4 manuals a 11% uptake

How does that M3 / M4 split compare to previous years?

Interesting.
Didn't 205 C63 previously outsell F80/F82 by like 4 to 1 about 5-6 years ago here in Oz?

They were selling 150 C63's a month. I sense AMG has lost mojo and momentum in the last few years though. Marcus Flasch was a turning point for M IMO.

Thanks for the info.

Not surprised M3 well outselling M4. M3 just looks more muscular if you ask me and more practical. M4 is an M6 of the mid 2000's size wise.

I have only seen an M4 in the flesh, was in red. Nostrils certainly got my attention.

I will be driving these in 2 weeks at Phillip Island though so I'm incredibly excited for that.

I've got an advanced 2 booked for eastern creek in September. Also looking forward to it. Would love to hear your thoughts. Enjoy Phillip Island. My favourite track.

Hey Jim, I have a feeling supply may have also impacted sales figures. Note also that Merc give f’all discounts, if BM is BM and they offer good discounts and they have the stock then I am not too surprised with those results.

Regardless, it’s been years since AMG lost out to the M3/4 from memory.

All true - though I also hadn't recalled the G8x only went on sale in March in 21 so lost a few months as well. Given how many I'm seeing on the road now they clearly are doing very well.

If I remember correctly,I believe the M4 outsold the M3 by about a 2:1 ratio with the F80/82/83.

However I’m going off memory and I was likely looking at US sales numbers.

Also @alpine*

No more discounts. BMW is literally printing money right now, why give it away?

I think when they officially switch to a 4pot hybrid, they'll really lose some customers. They may gain some in countries where taxes vs displacement is high, but that's probably it. If they would have gone V6 with a hybrid system, I would have understood that.

Personally, I'd rather just go full blown electric at that point.

At this point I tend to agree with you, though I wouldn't underestimate their ability to shock on this one. They may yet deliver a good sound profile with epic power and performance numbers. I would not write them off yet.

i agree that Markus has been a great asset. My bias is still Kay Segler, since he had the balls to bring us the 1 M without corporate knowledge until the end of the project, but Markus is definitely on the same glide path.

Hopefully he can keep it going for an extended period and won't be just a Flasch in the pan.

Markus is gone my friend. He's now playing with a new toy called Rolls-Royce

Thanks for the info. That is definitely a news Flasch to me. I now see Frank Van Meel is back at the helm to try and electrify the M brand. I'd probably bail to RR as well.

With a name like 'Mr M Flasch' he was destined to head M. Hopefully he'll be owing it again at some point (perhaps a further BMW management board promotion to head of group or future CEO will be in order )

Perhaps. In the meantime I guess we will need to pin our hopes on Frankie Goes to Munich for our ///M Meel ticket.

There are more DCT CS's than manuals in Oz. 37 manuals I believe? Definitely under 40.
