Interval between break-in and 10k service

I had my break-in service this week at 1136 miles. Now at 1,305 miles is says 8000 miles to next service. Seems like the 10k service starts from 0 miles, not the break-in service.
Thoughts?

Well yeah, the 10k service is at 10k miles. The big brains on those Germans, huh?

Even though the oil change is part of the break-in service, they do not reset the oil change interval.

Based on my recent oil change, the oil change interval is every 11k miles, not 10k miles so at almost 10k miles, you're getting the reminder.

There's also this thread where several people are doing oil changes every 5k miles or so - https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1848828

Break-in Service flags are cleared using ISTA.

It has nothing to do with the oil service intervals. Your first oil service should occur at 10K miles or 1 year from the in-service date, or sooner if the OBD service warns you (in case of heavy use conditions, short drives and that sort of things).

This is a good explanation by a BMW tech. I hope it helps you.

I dont drive my car enough to hit the mile service numbers but BMWNA allows for a time allotment instead so I get oil changes once a year (they allow for one free a year).

EG:

F90 bought in Aug 2018--- did break in - Nov 2018. Then got a free oil change in August 2019 even though counter said it was not remotely ready (because my anniversary) round 3100 miles. Then again I got an oil change in Aug of 2020 because of the anniversary around 4500 miles and then sold it shortly after. So technically I had 3 oil changes before 5k miles.

This is the same for my M8 now and will be for my 2nd G80. The first G80 only made it to the break in and a few hundred miles after as I sold it.

Hey if its free, Im gonna do it.
