Intro - new to me '18 OG M2
Picked up this '18 OG M2 6spd a few short days ago. No idea how I ended up in an M2, but am glad I ended up here!!
My previous car was a 2017 Focus RS - really loved that car - but sadly, was rear-ended and car was totalled. Prior to that I had a built 510whp STI which was a beast. Before that, a lovely '90 964 C4 (bought low and sold high - so no regrets). Even had a modified Volvo V70R 6spd and a few Audi quattros. So, awd manual cars were "my thing". I was actually planning on getting a 2022 Golf R and still have a deposit on one, but the roll-out for them has been delayed for months. The first BMW I ever drove (test drive, not owned) was an E30 M3 and fell in love with it. Missed out buying one from a guy I met at a park for $14K in 2006! In any event, got me thinking and started perusing autotrader - got tempted by a TT RS, but the came to my senses and started looking at the M2 - insurance pay-out pretty much paid for the M2 (minus taxes). Wy wife was never a BMW fan nor a fan of gray cars, but all it took for me and my wife was one quick test drive and we were hooked. Can't wait to get it out with it more and on a track next summer. Looking at getting a small CF trunk lip / wing and already upgraded to the Apple Carplay and a few other interior electronic updates. Anyway, that's my short story. Here are pics of the car from the dealership:

Thanks! The exhaust was really the icing on the cake - love the burbles.

The M Performance exhaust is great on a 2018. Congratulation and you should have great fun with your M2.

She’s a beaut.
Get the steering, diff, and stability control update ASAP. It can be done at the same time as the fullscreen CarPlay. Watch for stones/debris in the rear brake dust shields that cause a horrific sound that makes you die inside. They can simply be bent to allow more space between the rotor or replaced with a shield with updated part number. |

Congrats, that's a gorgeous example. The '18 is a rare bird - a 1-year car that got the LCI updates so it's slightly different in many small ways compared to a '16 or '17 - but still an OG. And that was the last year for that color. You get the nicer gauge cluster, very similar to the M2c (only the font is different, again a 1-year part). I love models that are unique like this. Hang onto that bad boy, they will only gain in desirability as the years go by.

Welcome to the club. I came from a Focus RS to an LCI 6 speed mineral grey M2 as well. The RS was definitely fun, but I think you'll enjoy the M2 more. Aside from steering feel and clutch, the M2 seemed better to me in just about every conceivable way. Enjoy!

Thanks! I agree, so far the M2 tops the RS (which I liked a LOT) in every way - especially ergonomics - the high seating position was a bit annoying. I find the M2 firm but not nearly as harsh as the RS was. While I'll miss the awd capabilities and hooning in the snow, the M2 is so much more refined and sounds amazing! (I had a cpe cat back on my RS - sounded like gunshots at times - great sound, but not even close to being as nice as the M performance). Only V6 engine sound I like better than the M2 is the Evora 400 (and maybe Cayman GT4).

Congrats. I picked up my first M2 on Tuesday. I went by the dealership after I looked at a Lexus RCF. After the test drive of the M2 I forgot about the RCF. What a car and looking forward to some great fun.

What he said, as I'm also interested in this and what needs to be done. OP, congrats on the car. Agreed with most that MGM is a sleeper of a color, and looks great when cleaned up. |

Google keywords, and “F87”, and it’ll provide results from this forum. There, now you can fish.

https://www.realoem.com/ Example https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...01#34208053265 As far as I know, one of the great mysteries in life (!) is the protection plate changes. No new part numbers, but latest inventory are different? I cannot see where the current part numbers indicate an older version that has been updated. Searched... one hit. There are certainly more posts or threads on the subject. https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1461304 For context, my '17 has a prod date of Aug 31 2016. The racket that one hears when rocks or pebbles get stuck is comically frightening. I was stopped recently while driving through a parking lot, "Dude! Is your exhaust dragging on the ground?" So, I suppose I do not have the latest part. For laughs, know that there was a forum posting somewhere, some time back, that indicated the technician, post-service, found a gravel road to see if the problem could be reproduced. One can find a service bulletin online too: SI B34 06 15 Brakes / Grinding Noise from Rear Brakes . Congrats on the car! GREAT choice!! Last edited by Zeese; 01-16-2022 at 10:59 PM.. |
