S85 in OG M2?
I had a fantasy in the shower of what it would be like to have a NA screaming v10 in an m2 mated with a 6mt. Would this be possible? Surely if it fits in the e46 then it could fit in the m2, no?
Saw a company advertising an s85 swap kit online and priced it at $15k I believe. If I could get an og m2 for about $30-35k range, then being in it for $50k sounds pretty worth it to me. small, compact, lightweight, manual NA V10 German machine. all I could ever ask for m2 = 3,415lbs (290 lbs from the N55) and 365 hp5/ = 9.35 lb/hp so, s85 m2 = 3,655lbs (s85 weighs 530 lbs so the difference + the original weight) and 507 hp = 7.20 lb/hp to put it in perspective, m2c is 3,583 lbs & 405 hp so that = 8.84 lb/hp I know this would be super unnecessary and expensive, but its just something I had thought about and wanted to hear your opinions on wether that'd be worth it/possible

There was a GT86 with an S85 fitted I came across on track last year, it wasn't overly quick though & he was having trouble sorting it. Not a bad option for drag racing but not so effective on track as most engine swaps (Ive done a few-see my signature) tend to upset the chassis to the extent that it's not really worth it, especially considering you can get plenty of power out of most oem engines these days if your prepared to throw enough money at them.
As far as actually fitting, it's generally not so much about getting the block to fit but making all the ancillaries & drivetrain & software function correctly. Modern cars don't lend themselves as well to engine swaps as was the case years ago when you could drop a small/big block into most things & make it work (electronics tech changed all that). The other point is it will only ever be a track car as you won't get it through whatever relevant registration/pollution requirements you have in your country & as for insurance forget it. So yer nice dream but that's all it is.

Obviously this is mostly conjecture and dreaming, but you should add at least 20K to that estimate to get to a finalized car.
That being said, you'd be much happier with an LS. The v10 is 80 pounds heavier, it's another set of cylinders longer, it has a higher center of gravity, it costs way more, it's less reliable, and it has a much lower power ceiling. |

since your in cali, how would you register your car? putting a older engine into a new car would auto fail you on cali smog?
how would the e series dme interface with the f series electronic architecture? you would probably need to run a standalone for the s85 and run your stock dme to run the aux systems of the car. i would say it would be more then 20k. |
