Mission Performance: S58 Tune Feedback

So I had the opportunity to be one of the first to try out the MP Stage 1 tune after Alex completed his Beta testing to see how it would feel. The Stage 1 is the you can run a minimum of 91 octane tune.

I have previously used MP on my X3 M40i with great results on pump octane (12.0@114) and no issues with reliability so I was excited to see what a tune would do for the S58

Flashing:
- Very easy, connect to the internet just like you would with any flasher, go to DME, click Stage 1 and it flashes away. Took around 2-3 minutes from start to finish, very easy. Switching from Stage 1 to 2 or 3 will take less than a minute.

Options:
- Alex put some interesting options in the tune I provided feedback on..
- Cooler oil and coolant temps
- Custom yellow / red zones for proper warm up
- This is interesting as I never knew the yellow bar was linked to the RPM shift light on the heads up display. This is cool as for those who like to manual shift and hit the rev limiter as you maybe aren't quick enough vs. the rpms rising, gives you plenty of time to optimize the shift
- E blended support - so you can add E to the tune and it auto adjusts based on the content... I don't know what stage will be what but when you have shitty E content like I do you don't have to guess if its E50, just fill the tank half and half and you will be fine
- Burble options
+ More

Driveability:
- It is a smooth operator to say the least.... like very smooth, maybe too smooth? lol
- Part throttle is linear and very strong, full throttle is a beast.
- Full throttle is very smooth actually, where its deceivingly fast and smooth, before you know it you're hitting 100
- Shift are VERY quick in D3, faster then stock and crisp.
- Efficient mode is just like stock, keep them MPG going!

Acceleration:
- I clocked the Stage 1 tune with E15-E20 blend with the not so great DA:
0-60: 3.2s
0-100: 7.0s (CRAZY)
1/8 mile 7.1@100 mph (equates to a 11.0 - 11.1 quarter).
40-80: 2.93s
60-100: 3.88s

With better weather (closer to 0 DA) I believe I could hit better times.

Yes I also tested the 91 tune on BM3 but I am not making this a tune vs. tune thread.

OVERALL:
- Damn this is the Stage 1 tune?! Stage 2 or Stage 3 is going to be a BEAST

Thanks for the great review. Also, seems like strong times.

Is this a custom tune based on BM3? Or I can purchase the tune from MP directly?

being objective here

no Mission Performance is an independent tuner. A US based brick and mortar that has been putting out performance tunes (and other goodies since 2009). The first to offer a B58 tune and now the first to offer a 2WD option for the X3M - and cool fact you can pick up the phone and call them. MP is typically the first to crack DME lock codes, offer neat extras etc....

As an example:
When Toyota Global needed someone to tune their very own TRD Supra, with the world watching, their reputation on the line and the pick of any tuner globally - they flew Alex (MP owner and tuner) to Texas to get the job done...yes he is that good. Read here if it is of interest to you.

disclaimer:
At 49 years of age and after 40 or so cars (almost 20 of which were/are BMWs) - all modified to some degree...I have the utmost respect and appreciation for the work Alex does for our BMW community (not taking anything away from PTF, MHD, etc...just my 2-cents)

Purchased directly from MP.

They use a flasher called MFlasher, simple to use and quick flash times like other tuners.
