Most Reliable Flash Tune?

So I have a 16 340 xdrive and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which company makes the most reliable flash tune.
Also, is a flash tune the same as a jb4 piggy back tune?

Welcome to the forums Mike. There's a ton of info here that's available if you give it a quick search.

That being said, most of the flash tunes have received positive feedback. It mostly comes down to pricing and customer service.

No, a flash tune and piggyback tune like a JB4 are different.

I prefer a flash tune and will be going that route once things are out of beta. The flash tune is adjusting the parameters directly in the DME vs a piggyback "tricking" it. Drivability/power delivery is generally better as well.

But some prefer the "safety" measures of JB4.

There are many Flash tunes available.

I used dervtech in the UK (download your stock / email it to them and they create a tune) as they showed lots of dynos (crank hp not whp if you look at the numbers) and used the eco/comfort/Sport switch to run different tunes. Eco = stock Comfort = 400hp and Sport 450 ad adjusted the throttle as I wanted and would to burble etc all for $650

Owned or Leased?

I would not put a piggyback (JB4) on my owned vehicle.

Go with a proper flash and make sure to add required supporting mods as you go from Stock to Stage 1 to Stage 2.

Most reliable flash is the BMW MPPSK.

I am personally waiting on the Dinan flash tune, which should be just as reliable. Last I've heard it will be released Q2.

Their piggyback should have been the most reliable too...

I wouldn’t run a Dinan tune on a go-kart.

I generally don't like piggybacks, and I may be wrong but the B58 piggyback was fixed with the Elite V2.

I would wait until the end of the month, BM3 and Active should be available soon

Too early to determine who has safest or if you even can. Mission has been out the longest and has more cars with a tune and with more mileage then anyone. I would suggest just getting a Stage 1 Tune from any tuner - made for 91 octane, fill up with 93 all the time and you’ll be fine.

Also, not the same.

This is where I'm currently at. I have a 16 340i with 11k miles and warranty until oct 20. So I am planning to get a flash tune. Looks like right now my main options are MP or MGflasher. MG flasher is cheaper but if I understand correctly their maps are all OTS maps where as MP costs more but it seems like they build the tune to your car? So double the price roughly but maybe a better tune.

As mike @ ph says though there are more options coming out as as much as I'd like to just easily dump money at the cheaper mgflasher and put stage 1 on, I'd like to see what the other companies are going to offer first.

Mainly posting to see if anyone can say my assessment of MP vs MGflasher is correct. Thanks!

DME Tuning offers a BEF that works very well with a jB4...

I have MP Stage 2.5 Flash and Stage 1 Trans Flash

I have a 2017 340 GT with a VRSF Catless DP, Dinan CF Intake, MP Stage 2.5 Engine Flash and MP Stage 1 Trans Flash. Although MP rarely answers email they always answer the phone. I was one of the first 10 to flash when it came out and have just recently upgraded to the Stage 2.5 Flash when I bought the Stage 1 Trans Flash. The flashing was done using a HP laptop running the latest windows software and that's all I use the laptop for as I am an Apple user. The flashing to unlock the DME took about 5 minutes and the actual flash takes about 2 minutes. Alex was on the phone with me as the car was flashed both times and was professional and courteous. He is actually the one who answered the phone each time I called with questions prior to my purchase. I have about 7000 miles on the stage 2 flash and about 2000 miles on the stage 2.5 flash with the stage 1 trans flash. No issues whatsoever. Car is fast as hell and feels like stock just way faster in all gears. Had the car over 130 several times and routinely pop up to 100 most days on the open road with no one around me. Never really floor it as it's so fast and I just don't need to do it. No cel with my DP either with over 7000 miles. Had the speed limiter removed and cold start delete. Running in temps from 10 to 90 and so far so good. Just put a set of Michelin PS4S's on the car and it handles like a dream even on our awful Philly suburb roads. Fun car that's practical for everyday use and I can even fit my drums in it.

No, MP tunes are not custom. They are OTS just like MG and just like PTF and MHD will be.

I like the fact that MP has both ECU and transmission tunes. Knowing they'll answer the phone is also good to hear.

With one HUGE caveat you forgot to mention, MHD and PTF/BM3 will allow custom tuning should you choose to that route. All the same parameters/tables are available.

I think that's why a lot of us are waiting. We can get more functionality at a cheaper cost.
