M2C kind of gets spanked by a Camero in R&T test
Just read it in the latest issue. test was @ thermal and it was hot. M2C DSG was 2 seconds slower on track and got out braked and beat in cornering G's. Need to compare with the OG. May be the same but i think the OG pulled an an honest 1g. Camero was almost 3800lbs VS 3655. I was suppressed the lap time and braking distance wasn't better. Overall kind of a weak performance? carl

It’s in the current issue magazine - you could also download the app and purchase the current issue for $5.99
Chevys sports division isn’t mess around these days… Doing some impressive stuff ...looks alone tho I’d still take the M2c (sans the giant muffler) over any modern Chevy Camero |

Well, that's pretty obvious then. The 1LE is a beast of a car. No surprise at all.

I have driven the Camero 1LE with a 6sp it handles very well but feels really big and your sitting in a hole looking out through a slit. No question for pure bang for the buck it beats the M2C. I still prefer the M2C by a mile. Just surprised it didn't really do any better than the OG. Even the bigger brakes didn't stop any shorter .carl

Based on the price, they might as well compare the M2C to the ZL1 1LE which would annihilate any car twice the price on a track. That's if track performance is your only criteria for buying a car like this. Not surprised the SS 1LE spanked it. The bespoke Eagle F1 tires on the SS 1LE is enough to make this comparison irrelevant on the track compared to the PSS on the M2C.

I wouldn't be able to bring myself to drive a car I see 50+ times a day even with a spec that beats cars twice it's price.

Over the SS 1LE... yes.
Over the ZL1 1LE... that's a little harder to answer mon frere! I only say this because my top choices are the ZL1 1LE and GT350R, while the M2C is my #2 choice. However, the ZL1 1LE could be a problem as a daily driver (and my wife would possibly kill me) and the GT350R has ADM by the piece of shit Ford dealer network. Nonetheless, I am excited for all the acclaim the M2C has been getting. And it is damn good looking to boot. |

The result should not be a surprise. Earlier Car and Driver Lighting Lap times at VIR had the original M2 7.1 seconds slower (2:54.8 Camero SS 1LE, 3:01.9 M2). The SS and ZL1 are performance bargains. I tried out the SS but I could not get over the bad visibility out of the car.

Not surprised at all. SS 1LE is one hell of a car. Its track performance is on par with M4 GTS not even M3/M4 Comp or CS (yet alone M2C).
In 2016 Best Driver's Car Contender from MotorTrend, Randy did 1:37.66 with M4 GTS and 1:37.78 with SS 1LE at Laguna Seca. Still wouldn't own one though for various reasons. |

SS 1LE is amazing. It performs with the M4 GTS.
Motor Trend lapped SS 1LE at Laguna Seca at 1:37.78. For comparison they lapped the M4 GTS at 1:37.66. (Edit didn't see above post). Some people need to adjust their expectations. |

The ZL1 1LE is so far ahead of any BMW in terms of performance, it is an example why BMW has the "soft" reputation nowadays. BMW makes a great daily driver performance car... but there is no true, balls-to-the-wall track machine in their lineup. No halo car which other companies take the risk to create. This is important because I have been the biggest fan of BMW for a long time and expect better from their execs, bean counters, and engineers. I can't afford a hypothetical M4 CSL or whatever everyone wishes BMW would produce, but I would respect the hell out of BMW if they could put up a 7:00 Nurburgring time. And they definitely can, but BMW's leadership is so worried about being the next Tesla of Germany, they have lost focus. I am excited for my M2C, but BMW as a whole does not excite me. They are a soft ass company. And I am not one to reference Nurburgring times, but in this case it is warranted: The ZL1 1LE (on Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3Rs) bests BMWs best performance machine, the M4 GTS (Sport Cup 2) by 11 seconds. 11 seconds! That is disgusting BMW. A heavy Camaro makes your best car look like a pig! I sound like a teenager just quoting numbers from a magazine, but we all dream and cherish high performance cars... like teenagers. We are passionate about lap times and such, even if they don't apply to our daily lives. Chevy performance engineers are at the top of their game. BMW engineers are not. And a big part of that is the leadership at BMW holding them back. Make me eat my words BMW and make an M4 CSL or M2 GTS or whatever name you want to bless it with. And just like Porsche, have some pride in your Nurburging lap times. You are a lot closer to that track then Chevy is. ZL1 1LE, ZR1, GT3, GT2RS, AMG-GT, NSX, GT350R, R8, GT-R, Viper ACR... What do all these cars have in common? None of them are BMWs. (mods you can delete this post if you deem it too juvenile ) |
