Navigation

So I have Navigation with Traffic. My salesman sung the praises of the BMW NAV system.
I live in Canada and BMW here decided that it was not worth adding the traffic system on MINI's till 2017 I believe. My past JCW displayed a map but really it was just eye candy because I live in a city....and without knowing the traffic I spent a lot of time sitting listening to music.
I was very excited to use the new Nav system complete with traffic from the BMW cloud. I must admit I have been very disappointed. Not once in the 30 times I have used it has it been even close to the Google map displayed on my phone. It is often very wrong about what is the best route and often underestimates the ETA. In fact it is so bad I really don't use it.
I am looking into phone mounts - which seems crazy.
Anyone else in big cities have similar problems. Am I doing something wrong ( I have the traffic checked in the side menu). The whole thing looks so great. I'm sure BMW Canada cheaped out somehow! I bet you US Brothers and Sisters have it working correctly....

Mine works great and so much better than the last generation. I learned not to doubt it the hard way. lol

Mine works well although I will say that I'm not sure how "real-time" it is. As Rockin said, it's leaps and bounds above the previous generation.

I feel the same way. Though it under estimates time of arrival when there is traffic.

The latest BMW nav is a lot better than it used to be. Make sure you enable online alternate routes and dynamic route changes based on traffic.

I'm not seeing that option in the manual or on the display "online alternate routes" or "Dynamic route changes".

Would you mind telling me : Where, How?

I'm sure I didn't get the names right. I will check in the car tomorrow and let you know.

I looked in the online manual (iPad) and found it... See the photo.

I get around in traffic as part of my job. So I am aware of what is going on most of the time. I find Google is the benchmark with a couple of others sometimes being better (Waze for instance).
Maybe I have my car setup incorrectly but at the moment I would say it is slightly better than having no traffic updates and the routes are weird. Like taking you though the city when it is 1.30pm when dropping down to the Gardiner is way quicker because there is little traffic at that time...and you save 10 minutes from the Nav's proposed route.....

Just went to the car and had a quick fiddle. Found the menu that you posted. It is buried pretty deep. Was thinking this is not available on this car.
Any way the "dynamic guidance was set to "with confirmation" - changed it to "Automatic".
Online routes was not checked - so did that.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure those things alone will be a big help!

This is an example of how this community is so great. I'll report how it is next week!
