Non-adaptive LCI headlights close up pics-edited

Here's some close up pics of my LED's. Other than being LED's vs xenon the 3 main differences I can see is the lack of the amber bulb for turn signals replaced by something I can't describe, black barrels and an all black housing. I believe on the pre-LCI and the adaptives there is a silver or chrome strip at the bottom. I think it's going to look pretty good after I change out my grills to black, especially since my car is AW.

The only thing established in the other thread is that there is absolutely no pattern whatsoever lol. When I finally got to see the car in person last week after waiting since August 2016 I looked at the lights right away and shrugged. Both LED's look good, it's just OG vs new money. BTW, I did get Michelins.

Have you owned a car with xenon headlights?Just wondering if they are brighter than the xenons.

I have not so I can't answer your question. And my mistake on the first post, I meant vs xenon's not halogens. I'm in a very small percentage of the 2018 LCI that has the non-adaptive circular vs adaptive hex design so I thought I would post some pics.

Can we code them to be adaptive?

I have the adaptive LEDs (ordered Exec because I wanted them), and I don't know that they are any brighter than xenons, but I'd say they are more "Even" and maybe a bit more white/blue than Xenons?

what I really like about them is the near-instant illumination, and no fear over killing their lifespan by enabling the "Coming home" and "leaving home" features.

(Xenons do not "like" the initial act of "ignition." Every time you "start" a xenon bulb it eats into its life, so turning them on for little 30-60 second periods for coming/leaving home is actually adding up to a lot of damage over time. No such problem with LEDs.)

I had an M235i with Xenons and my M2 LCI with adaptive LEDs are much brighter and crisper.

The adaptive LEDs are also more responsive than the adaptive xenons, based on what I saw while on ED

Congrats on your car - you get it from BMW Seattle? Also, there's a few of us from the PNW that get together sometimes - I'll send you a PM too...

Nope. What happened was that several customers were lined up for MY17 but BMW bumped them up to MY18.

Since the MY17 came with adaptive as standard and the MY18 did not, they honored the MY17 configuration and included them for no cost to those that got bumped up a model year.

Actually I've been on a waiting list since 8/16 and also had the adaptives listed on the build sheet even though I chose not to add the exec. Pkg so when it came with standard LED's I had no right to complain. It really didn't matter that they weren't adaptive as my purchasing decisions were intentionally guided by opting for anything that improves performance and nothing that doesn't (de-chroming aside). That being said if it came with hex's I wouldn't have complained either lol.

Being in a waitlist is different - the folks I mentioned already had production numbers and scheduled weeks that then got bumped out due to the 17 to 18 changeover.

The adaptive are definitely worth it though, especially if you drive around twisty roads at night.

I dont think that's correct. I was never on a MY17 waitlist and I didn't have a production number until the first MY18 allocations came out, and mine came with adaptives. I think it was really just the first few months of MY18 production. I may be wrong but I think there were people in the adpative thread that got allocations after the initial MY18 batch and still got adaptives. Probably a supply chain or ordering system issue.

While you yourself may not have been, the car itself probably was, regardless of who the assigned owner was at the time. If you go through that thread in detail they eventually confirm what I said above (although it's quite a few pages in).

But, a few pages after that, we had to 'unconfirm' it in the face of new evidence to the contrary.

My buddy is week 45 build and he’s same as me non-exec pack. Adaptive heads are on his build sheet.

Not true. I only ordered an '18, as did several other people who received the 552s as a surprise, no-charge option.
