Base System Battery Power

I did a pretty full system upgrade last year. One of the problems we encountered was a remote turn on for the amp and MS-8. They ended up using some kind of modulator that runs a false turn on that is activated by any kind of power turn on (courtesy lights, etc...). The problem I'm encountering now is that my battery is being drained because something is being left on. I installed a new battery because I thought perhaps the battery was just worn out. One month later, I'm encountering the same issue.

I noticed that the Alpine Upgrade uses a specific harness to drive the amp. Would this harness (or one like it) work on my system? Or is there another way to do this because we actually could not find a remote turn on.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

The technic harness uses some kind of relay to do this
I believe.
On the high fi system the 12 volt line to the amp
is switched.

Read the last one before these.

I believe the cigerette lighter acc line is switched
off when the car is shut off. use for a relay trigger

I have the base system with no amp. And they couldn't find a remote turn on point, but using the socket doesn't work because if the engine is turned off, it shuts power off. I think that was what we tried first.

But thank you for the links. I'll take a look at them and see if I can figure something out. I didn't use a Technic harness because when I did the install, he was unreachable

Pin 13 on the back of the HU has the turn on signal. This is why my table of contents says explicitly to use a technic harness.

I have the base system.

You can have your shop wire something in or you can buy a technic harness. Either way.

Edit- i know hes hard to get a hold of.

I too have the base system and installed an amp with the Technic 2/4 harness. My amp has speaker level inputs and does not use a remote wire, and it too turns on intermittently when doors open, etc. It hasn't become an issue yet but if it does, then I think I would add a capacitor between the amp and the battery. I assume the amp does not draw much juice at all when it turns on (with no music playing).

I use AudioControl LC2i for my signal to my Sub,It also has signal sensing remote turn on.
I've had it installed for over 2 years with no problems.
Very simple design and Great sound Quality!!
I think it was about $80.00 with a remote bass control.

I think my Alpine Amp (PDR-F50) has the "signal sensing remote turn on" as well, but it didn't seem to want to work because we weren't using the speaker level inputs (I'm using an MS-8 to recalibrate the Base HU's horrible EQing). This was all beyond me as I haven't done any kind of stereo instal for over a decade. The drawbacks to living in a small town: Not very much experience dealing with the base stereo system in the BMWs.

To this day I still don't understand why BMW would put such a crappy system in a $50K car. I swear, if I had taken the car home overnight before I bought it, it might have been a deal breaker for me. I just never thought that it would be such a pain in the ass to upgrade the system. I REALLY miss the HK system in my ZHP Coupe (I mention it being a coupe because the coupe had two subs that the sedan didn't). It wasn't competition level, but after putting an Alpine HU in, I didn't need any more than that. It got loud, I could hear everything and it was factory.

Hk system in the my e46 was even better than the Hi Fi I got and I suspect
it might be better than the L7 system for overall presence .
4 inch speakers (even expensive ones)just do not have enough low end and some Engineer decided he would sacrifice sound for swoopy looking doors and large useless map bins, plus I am sure the bean counters were involved.
Also Hi Fidelity kind of took a back seat with mp3's and the ipod generation.

Such a waste. It's pretty bad when the system in the basic Nissan Altima sounds better than the system in my 335i...
